if thinking it's pitiful you guys are still on about this amounts to "stanning" (sic), sure.
the good news is that it was extremely unpopular, both locally and nationally, when the ua power brokers tried this before, so much like the new ua president trying to take the med school from uab, you do not have to worry at all about them trying again any time soon. uab has a football team now and thats that. there is zero percent chance it changes any time soon. (goes for both.)

I think UAB having a football program in FBS is a wasteful expense only made more ridiculous every advancing year of NILball. It is an indulgence given to the City of Birmingham to justify their persistent sports venue ambitions that resulted in not even being able to keep a spring ball league and some 6-6 v. 5-7 type ESPN bowl.
I think the spin off of UAB into its own institution made a lot more sense before the internet. The largest city in the state did not have a public 4-year institution. For those who could not afford - either due to job commitments or money - to commute to Tuscaloosa, were underserved by the state higher education system.
However, that justification makes less sense today given remote learning being common even for those attending UA. It is a better overall arrangement for the prestige of the flagship university - which will have material impact on the quality of faculty and student it can attract - for the flagship to have all the schools a major state flagship university ought to have.
The current arrangement cheapens both and the only real expense is some faculty and administrators would be redundant. Though truthfully, I bet the redundancy would mostly be in administrators because you're not a modern university without faculty shortfalls.

On top of that auburn just giggles in glee to see UAB have any success. I personally think they pushed to get the football program reinstated when it was shut down.

Auburn has nothing to do with UAB existing as a standalone campus best I can tell. However they totally outmaneuvered UA for the land grant in the 19th century despite having far fewer notable alumni at the time.

Nobody clutched their pearls harder than boomer Auburn fans when UAB shut its football program down. It was genuinely the most embarrassing yet hilarious displays of fake outrage I'd ever seen. They were more devastated than the nine UAB fans were (eight if we're counting a pregnant UAB fan as one).
But ask those same Auburn boomers why they don't channel all that energy into helping AUM build a football program and, "NO, THAT'S DIFFERENT!!!!1"

Yep. As a UAB grad, I have always felt they'd be better served by putting all their efforts into basketball. If they did that, they could potentially maintain some level of athletic success.

We want to keep it that way. But it would also be nice for all the UAB fan base to be cheering for the Crimson Tide and not a green dragon. Its insane we even have to have this discussion and it needs to be fixed.

How our fan base reacts when UAB is brought up is weird. UAB is a great institution and the state is well served with them (and the medical school) in Birmingham and UAH up north. Sure their football program loses money, but so does most of the FBS programs. Let them be, the market will decide their programs future much like the rest of the non P4 schools across the country.

Do you say this as well? Because it has everything to do with UAB fans and nothing to really do with the institution itself.
What's weird is how a large portion of our fanbase simps for people that absolutely hate them...

I’m a UAB grad and loathe their athletic dept because of their hatred for Alabama. The weird actors are UAB supporters and their obsessive hatred of Alabama resulting in accusations of one baseless conspiracy after another. Things have appeared to cool off some since the departure of Gene Bartow but they are probably still simmering under the surface.

It has to be auburn fans within the UAB community that wants to destroy Alabama as much as possible while occupying space in some capacity within the UAB community. Sadly I doubt our leadership has enough balls to fix the problem.......As much as I dislike auburn, I promise you they would not allow this type of division in their ranks. Which is one of the reasons Bama is steadily losing ground all the time within the state.
