Hopefully. He is supposed to commit the "first or second week in April."

Right now it looks like there's a good chance we have former 5* recruits JD Davison, Jahvon Quinerly, Josh Primo, Charles Bediako, and Nimari Burnett on the roster next year. And they could potentially all be on the court at the same time given the way we play.

Have learned that Florida basketball guard Noah Locke has entered the transfer portal. A starter each of the last three years. Averaged 10.6 points per game this season.

Damn, this transfer portal is crazy. It might be easier to track the players that aren't transferring.

Probably going to be around 1,500 guys in the portal by the time the NCAAT ends. NCAA might not even have a choice in determining who will/won't be immediately eligible. They won't be able to review that many cases fast enough. Hopefully it's just a one time blanket transfer waiver and everyone is eligible right away as long as they are enrolled by a certain date.

They passed a transfer rule that says anyone can transfer one time and be immediately eligible right? I don't think they have to review them and rule on them anymore.

You could still be ineligible if there are grade issues of course.

Just found this from December 16th, 2020, but it doesn't seem like it is pertaining to the 2021 season:

quote:

The Division I Council granted a blanket waiver allowing all transfer student-athletes to compete immediately this season if specific criteria are met.

In order to be eligible for the waiver, the transfer student-athletes must meet the following conditions:

*They must be enrolled full time at the school for the fall 2020 term.

*It must be the first transfer from a four-year school.

*The student-athlete must have left their previous school in good standing academically and not facing disciplinary suspension.

*Both the head coach and the student-athlete must certify that impermissible recruiting did not take place.

The waiver applies only to students who transferred from another Division I school, not transfers from other NCAA divisions or schools outside the NCAA. The regular transfer waiver process is available to non-Division I transfer student-athletes.

Applicable to all sports, the waiver was initially proposed by the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association and was supported by the Men’s and Women’s Basketball Oversight Committees, the Student-Athlete Experience Committee and the National Association of Basketball Coaches. Providing immediate eligibility for these students could help teams if their rosters are impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Student-athletes also supported the waiver.

I think it was for last year and every year forward. I don't think it was just a one year thing.

Sounds like you can transfer this year and be eligible without a waiver but they are gonna vote on if they make it a permanent thing or not.

Not to be a downer, but I wouldn’t view Burnett as a 5* at the moment. He was pretty bad when he did play this year.

Still hope we get him, but I wouldn’t expect him to start.

That's what it looks like to me too.

He wasn't great offensively, but showed the ability to be a difference maker on the defensive side. He only played 12 games, but he had a DBPM of 5.8 - for comparison, Herb has a 5.3 this season.

He's a very skilled offensive player, so I think it should be expected for those numbers to easily improve in our offense.

Why are SO many kids trying to transfer? What is the reason/reasons except that you now have the choice? Grass is not always greener with another team. It just seems ridiculous.
I mean there are kids who are doing well at their schools and still bailing out. The unknown is more perilous than the known so why keep rolling the dice?
I guess this whole charade will settle down in a couple of years. Let's hope.

Anybody have an ear on the local h.s. bball scene in 'bama? Any buzz of high schools copying what Pearl and Oats are doing?

Regarding Burnette's offensive abilities, Q also got off to a slow start. And now he's a force.

Yeah - I didn’t pay much attention to him at Tech, but assuming whoever said he played in 12 games is correct, that’s hardly enough time to make an accurate assessment about a player’s abilities, much less that players first 12 games after the jump to college.

Quinerly is a great example. He even had a full season at Nova, but his numbers this year aren’t even comparable.

Added another 56 names to the transfer list in the last 24 hours. Now up to 893.

Last year’s entire list finished with 1,004 names (through August). On track to hit that by Tuesday - before April.

Just as a reference - there are 900 players in the NBA. So the portal is just seven guys shy of having enough bodies to create two separate leagues that are the equivalent in size of the NBA.

I am not a portal fan. It can help us, but I hate the instability it adds to sports. I'm also old and hate change.

Combination of guys trying to use their extra year of eligibility and the fact that they're giving a blanket waiver to everyone this year.
