I am a fan of it for basketball. I think it is horrible for football though

It's a double edged sword. I think it's a good thing for players but it's a bad thing for small schools. My main concern with the portal is that it's going to eventually turn mid-majors into a kind of farm system for P-6 conferences, which would be really bad for college basketball as a whole.

Gonzaga has landed the commitment of five-star senior Hunter Sallis, and man, what Mark Few has done with these Zags over the last few years is unbelievable.

Spokane, the new hot spot for top tier recruits, book it.

College athletics are so susceptible to drop off with coaching change - Butler, Wich. St., UConn, etc. are not the same teams they were 10 years ago. You could say the same about Boise St. in football. Gonzaga will probably drop off after Few finally hangs it up.

I don't think players having easier transfer options will create as much issue as many think. As long as you have your coach, running his system, most teams - big or small - will be ok.

Coach K said there was already over 800 in the portal... not sure why there is that many. Crazy

Added another 56 names to the transfer list in the last 24 hours. Now up to 893.

Last year’s entire list finished with 1,004 names (through August). On track to hit that by Tuesday - before April.

This was from 10 hours ago.

Right now it looks like there's a good chance we have former 5* recruits JD Davison, Jahvon Quinerly, Josh Primo, Charles Bediako, and Nimari Burnett on the roster next year. And they could potentially all be on the court at the same time given the way we play.

Bediako isn’t a 5-star in any sites I’ve looked at. Which one is he a 5 on?

He was a 5* on 247 Composite for a long time, but lost his fifth star on the latest update on December 23rd. Even still, he is the highest rated recruit in the class that isn't a 5*.

I can get that. I'm getting old, and resisting change.

But I think this year is just an extreme. It's the first consequence free year, so any and everyone who wants a better situation is jumping on it. It's a 1 time thing per player. So you'll see much lower numbers in the future.

I'll start with my fear... Is that it could destroy mid majors and other smaller teams. Once a team starts having some success, and maybe have a couple guys get hot in the tournament, and they'll start to get their talent stolen. Under the radar guys may jump to blue bloods at the first chance.

But I think it's just fair to the players. For every straight up, no bullshite coach like Saban, there's a metric frick-ton of liars and cheats. So there's tons of kids that go through the recruiting process, just to find out the coach was full of shite. Now they're miserable. And these kids are students. When you're miserable and unhappy, it's hard to do your best as a student.

And since they aren't getting paid, just getting an education. So them being allowed to have a mulligan, with a much better insight of the recruiting process, seems fair. The players are why these sports exist. You definitely don't want unrestricted free agency. But giving them 1 extra, consequence free, chance at finding the place that will make happiest or most successful.

I just gotta add...if Tchikou had stayed in 2021 he was 100% gonna be a 5*

I think so too.

Still can't believe that my favorite recruit in the whole 2021 class was a random 6'11' kid from France that has some ball skills similar to a guard, has legit outside shooting range and played high school ball out west decided to reclassify to 2020 to sign with Alabama.

Seeing this news on reddit, brought me to this thread. He's from the opposite side of the country, and may still want to play with his brother. But after see him play in the tournament, that guy is a badass 5 in our system. I think he shoots 3s at 38%. And ever seen how he handles games in the spotlight and pressure.

I doubt he'll transfer too far away from the pnw. I think his brother is going to Portland. Though even if he wants to go to a big program, it'll probably be somewhere like Oregon, OSU or Washington.

Yeah, I think he could be a lot of fun in our system.

But I also think there is a zero percent chance it happens.

Same odds as me banging Gal Gadot, but that doesn't make the fantasy less exciting.
