Good grief, man - I have no earthly idea why what AA7 said would make you angry. I think he's pretty much spot on with what he said. AA7 is a good poster.

Coveted center Charles Bediako closing in on a decision
LINK
quote:
Charles Bediako came in at No. 29 in the recent Rivals150 ranking update, making him the No. 4 player in the country at the center position. In October, Bediako went public with his final five schools, and he is narrowing in on a decision.
“I know I said I was supposed to commit in January," Bediako said. "You know, stuff happened. I could commit at any moment now, but it will be at the latest March. Everyone will know by March.”
IN HIS OWN WORDS
Duke: “The coaching staff is great, I talk with Coach K. They tell me they are recruiting no one else but me right now. They like my motor and how I play. It makes me want to keep working.”
Alabama: “Great coaching staff. You know Nate Oats, he came in and transformed Alabama. They’re ranked really high. ... They play a fast, NBA-type style and that’s also intriguing, too. They develop there, too.”
Michigan: “Coach (Juwan) Howard is a big reason they’re in there. I feel like he could develop me, help me get to the next level. One of my teammates, Caleb Houstan, committed there so that is also cool. They are great people.”
Ohio State: “They are great people there as well. I talk often with Meechie (Johnson). He is in my ear all the time, talking about how great the place is. Coach (Chris) Holtmann is doing great there. They run a four-out, one-in type system, and I feel I could fit great in their system and development.”
Texas: “Coach (Shaka) Smart, another great coaching staff. They really tell me a lot how they have developed a lot of guys like me: Jarrett Allen, Mo Bamba and right now they've got Jericho Sims there, too.”
MORE ON BEDIAKO'S RECRUITMENT
“I have been doing a lot of research on these schools, it is honestly going to come down to which school is the best fit for me," Bediako said. "You've got a lot of stuff to look at, aside from even the basketball side, you've got to look at academics, the people you are going to be around, your teammates and how you get along. It also really comes down to trust, someone you feel comfortable with and play through mistakes and everything.”
Asked about his playing style, Bediako said his goal is to be a versatile player.
“I don’t really have a specific type of game," he said. "I am a rim-running big, and can also be in the post. I can shoot the three a little. Overall, I just want to be an all-around basketball player, more than just dunking and playing above the rim.”
This is Bediako’s first year at IMG Academy, and his game has seen notable growth since the move.
“IMG has helped me get more comfortable in the post-up game," Bediako said. "I am getting a lot more comfortable in the post now. I was quicker up and down last year. Now I am getting comfortable on the block. They have a great strength coach here. He’s crazy, but he also gets you right. I’m getting a little bit bigger; my footwork and my speed is increasing.”
IMG Academy post-graduate head coach Chad Myers has become familiar with Bediako’s game, and he has seen what the big man can offer his prospective programs.
“Charles is a Clint Capela-type of guy," Myers said of the Atlanta Hawks center. "He's a rim-runner who protects the basket and gets to the dunker spot. He is working on becoming more of a pick-and-pop guy. Right now, he plays his best off other guy’s drives.”
RIVALS' REACTION
Bediako has always had very intriguing natural tools, with his length and ability to run. This year, he has added a sense of meanness to his game. Bediako is an active rebounder and a good rim protector. Myers' comparison to Cabela is a valid one.

That sounds like Ohio State or Duke to me.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but last year Oats and the staff got three unexpected commits from Bruner, Miles, and Tchikou. No doubt if they backed off Cardet and Bediako, they have guys they're recruiting.

Bruner was a grad transfer, but yeah, he wasn't even on the radar when the Bediako recruitment began.
Miles was a little bit of a surprise to us as fans, but it's possible the staff knew or at least felt strongly about getting him before we ever did.
Tchikou was definitely a bit of a surprise because he reclassed.

Absolutely - wish I could get my hands on the actual list of guys that they are currently recruiting in the 21, 22 and even the 23 class.

He gave JD a backhanded compliment. I don't go on Auburn's board and say things like "Sharife Cooper is a good player, the only knocks are he can't play defense or hit a three to save his life" if you don't like how I responded to what he said...

It wasn’t a backhanded compliment. He was giving a fair opinion about JD

"The only knock on JD Daivdson is he does what he does vs crappy competition, I guess he played one good team, Scooter Henderson's team."
That's paraphrasing what he said. Davidson has dominated in AAU against good competition, he doesn't only play crappy competition. To insinuate he is only doing as good as he is because he is in 2A, or that it's a knock on him that he plays in 2A is stupid. I would call out an Alabama fan for saying something so stupid and especially would an Auburn fan who's only post here I have ever seen in one of our Bball threads was that post.

Jesus Christ man. I called him a better scoring version of Westbrook and said that if you had to just find something to nitpick it would be something that doesn’t even involve his skill set or ability
Again, sorry if it came across as backhanded or insulting. Was trying to do my best to imply that JD is quite literally a man amongst boys in HS. Obviously his success in basketball isn’t just in his HS games. Dude tore it up in AAU.
ETA: I’ve got a good number of posts in the mega thread as well FYI. I was on the bama bandwagon preseason. I freaking love Oats.

We offered 2023 Win Miller from Vestavia Hills.

Has anyone seen him play? Found something that said he was a slasher type.

2022 guard Willie Lightfoot announced a final five of Alabama, Buffalo, Oregon, Marquette, and Minnesota this afternoon. Has no set timetable for his decision yet, will be a very nice pickup. Very nice prospect @sunrisehoops.

I haven't. I don't think he even has a profile on 247 yet.

Ramses Melendez committed to Illinois.

I haven't seen a clear statement about seniors and COVID basketball eligibility in basketball like I have for football. Can basketball seniors this year return for a 5th of eligibility in 2021-2022 and not count against the 13 scholarship limit like they can in football?
We have 4 seniors right now and 3 commits, so we have 1 spot remaining.
The only offers for 2021 kids we have out now that Melendez committed to Illinois are Bediako, Cardet, and Sallis.
With the rumors that both sides have cooled with Bediako and Cardet, as well as never really being in it with Sallis, it's looking more and more like we will be in the transfer market with that last spot.

It'd be kind of unfair of them to grant that to football but not basketball. Especially since the postseason for basketball got canceled last year. Then again it is the NCAA. Herb and Petty are for sure gone and Bruner is probably like 98% gone. I really wouldn't mind Reese coming back at this point though. He's obviously never going to be a great player or anything, but he has really stepped up and given us a lot of valuable minutes with Bruner out. If he does the same thing next year it would be a big help for what is going to be a pretty inexperienced front court.

Here would be our current roster makeup as it stands, assuming the seniors all depart.
PG (2):
1. Quinerly
2. Davidson
Wings (6):
1. Shack
2. Primo
3. Ellis
4. Gary
5. Miles
6. Holt
Bigs (4):
1. Rojas
2. Tchikou
3. Ambrose-Hylton
4. Wilson
Even though we only play one big at a time, I still believe that's where the last spot needs to go. We probably already have more numbers at the 5 spot than we want from a roster make-up perspective, given that we only play one at a time, but we don't have anything close to a proven, startable commodity like Bruner/Reese.

We could really use Reese back next year, too. Even though we have numbers at the 5 spot, we don't have anything close to a proven commodity that we KNOW is ready to play.
Ideally, you want a Bruner/Reese to play the 25 starter's minutes while a young guy spends a year coming off the bench for 15 minutes a night to get acclimated before eventually ascending to the 25 minute starter role themselves.
None of our returning bigs are even in that 15 minute role this year except Rojas, and the results have been less that stellar.
That's not to say that one of Tchikou, Wilson, or KAH can't/won't develop. But we would be putting an awful lot of faith in them playing the starter's minutes out of the gate next season without ever having been even a bench contributor prior.

We looked this up a while back and iirc, they can return as long as the coach/staff/school initiate the process, but they would count against the scholarship limit. Might need to look it up again to be sure though on limit rules.
