PG- JQ
SG- Primo
SF- Petty
PF- Herb
C-Bruner

That’s my starting lineup with Shack winning 6th man of the year. You’ll see players playing similar minutes so there’s not a big difference in starting and coming off the bench in Oats’s system. I imagine he won’t go with over 10 guys. Miles and Ambrose probably redshirt.

I doubt Ambrose plays equal to or more than Gary or Rojas and possibly not even as much as Javian or Reese.

You seem very confident that Primo will be in the starting lineup. Any particular reason why? Assuming Shack improves his production from last year even marginally, Primo would have to put up an All-SEC freshman season to be better than that. He's talented for sure, but that's a tall task for any freshman.

We Should be MUCH better defensively with that lineup. Petty,Herb, and Bruner are all great defenders

Primo is 6’6, long and athletic. Shack is 6’3 and limited athletically. Both are elite shooters, probably give the edge to Primo if I had too. Primo can also handle the ball as well if they wanted to play JQ off ball, so Primo is just more versatile. It’s no slight to Shack at all. Primo is a projected 1 and done for a reason and I don’t think he came to Alabama to come off the bench. Just my opinion

Yes they are. He’s the most athletic player on the team.

That's a perfectly reasonable opinion and I can't say I disagree with any of it. I am just very hesitant to put a ton of expectations on freshmen. Especially given our fanbase's tendency to do just that and then write a kid off completely if he isn't that great in his first season. The thing I like most about Shack and my reason for thinking he's going to start is that he has a lot of positive intangibles. He plays fearlessly and is more than willing to have the ball in his hands with the game on the line. You don't see that very often from freshmen. Especially at Alabama. The only two others I can think of in recent history to play like that are Releford and Sexton.

Oh I love Shack. I’m just extremely high on Primo talking to his coach and watching a ton on him. People are going to fall in love with how smooth he is.

Oh yeah, I love his game. Everything he does on the court looks completely effortless and he is very well rounded on offense. He reminds me a lot of the kind of kid Duke tends to sign. Not necessarily an athletic freak, but a dude who just doesn't struggle with any aspect of the game of basketball.

I can’t imagine after the year he had last year that Shack wouldn’t start. Primo might overtake him as the year progresses, but I think you have to let Shack begin the season as the starter.

Not a knock on Shack at all, but his only fault if there is one, he never met a shot he didn't like.

I don’t care if he takes them as long as he makes them consistently

I'm in the camp where Shack will still get plenty of minutes, and maybe even start the season out as the starter, but eventually come off the bench.

He is competing with Petty/Primo/Ellis (to a lesser extent) for his traditional 2-guard spot, and the other 3 are all taller, longer, more athletic, and better defenders.

Shack is 6'3 and shot 36% from 3 last season.

Petty is 6'5, shot 44% from 3pt last year, and is our best defender not named Herb Jones. And you know he starts if he comes back.

Primo is 6'6, shoots about 35% from 3pt, and is talked about as a potential one-and-done, first round kind of player.

Even Ellis is 6'6 and shot 40% from 3pt last season as a JUCO All-American.

The main thing about Shack versus these other 3 guys is balance. Is the drop in offense small enough that the defensive boost more than makes up for it? No doubt he is working hard and getting better based on all of the reports.

Shack has shown that he can be a good shooter at the D1 level Primo and Ellis havent yet. I would assume shack starts at least the first of the season til Primo gets acclimated. If Primo ends up outplaying Shack and taking his starting spot then so be it.

Good problem to have, both guys will get a lot of minutes regardless of which one starts.

Ellis is the one who’s minutes might most be effected if Petty comes back, he was looking at probably 25 minutes a game w/o Petty and with him he may get 15 or under.

When was the last time we had enough good depth on the Bball team that good players were gonna be competing against other good players for starting spots/minutes? Been a while for sure.

If Petty comes back, we're gonna have 3 players good enough to start coming off the bench in Ellis, Rojas, and whoever doesn't start between Primo and Shack.

With the scoring punch we're going to have inside & out the 20-21 Bama basketball team has the potential to go as far as any team we've ever had.Deep bench with good coaches.

Shack has a year of college experience. He was a much better player at the end of the year, than at the beginning. Shack was terrible at going to the basket early in the year, but he did improve towards the end of the year. Playing in front of big crowds with pressure on you, TV and the crowds, can be a humbling experience. Shack will start. But if Primo can play the backup point guard, he will get plenty of playing time. He will have to adjust to playing hard all the time, and against great athletes that will play physical.
