Just a reminder that an average SEC program is always a coach away

No, not this at all! Auburn wished they were average. My entire life, Auburn has had very brief periods of success followed by sanctions (since they were serial cheaters to have the success) then long stretches of being a dumpster fire where promising young coaches went to kill their careers. It's always been that way. They were a basketball backwater and a job nobody wanted. WE were the semi-competent basketball program in the state.

So today I watched in abject horror tinged with nausea as they became the first program in the state to achieve a Final Four. It isn't fair. We've been the basketball program in this state for a century. This can't be happening! Someone please wake me up, this is horrible! HELP MEEEEEEE!

I really couldn't care less about Auburn being good. It might even be a positive, IF Bama can get to the same level. Imagine the excitement in the state if both teams are playing at a high level. It might trickle down and help improve the high school programs which would benefit both schools in the long run.

Right, and something Bruce should be comfortable with us coaching under the scrutiny of the NCAA.

It's really not that Auburn is good. It's that Pearl wanted the Bama job and Battle was busy shitting all over the athletic dept

Not unless he just wants to go to a bball school, why would he want to go to one of those pressure cooker schools?

Auburn with SEC money can easily pay him top salary and he doesn't have that enormous pressure. He can become a legend (which now he pretty much is with a final four) at a school that was a perennial dumpster fire.

Yeah, but I doubt Byrne would have hired him at that point either. I was open to it, but it was still a risk. Auburn took it and it paid off. It could have gone sideways though.

I really think It will take a lot to get Pearl away from Auburn. They took a chance on him and he knows it

I just can't stand Battle. Byrne might not have hired Pearl, but he wouldn't have left us screwed with Grant. Battle didn't even want to fire him at the end. Grant had to basically ask him. It was pathetic

Duke and Michigan State are the best teams right now. Both teams are solid everywhere

"Over the last year I have spent a fair amount of time with Coach Anthony Grant. In every meeting we have had, I came away impressed with his character, with his knowledge and belief in his approach to the game, with his commitment to win championships at Alabama, and with his ability to recruit and develop players, both on and off the court."

My last post will probably get me so many downvotes, I'll be banned from this board. It's been a hell of a run.

Dear God, this is how bad this nightmare has become: Auburn has beaten Kansas, North Carolina, and Kentucky in consecutive games to reach the Final Four. They will probably face Duke for the natty.

I'd take Tx Tech over both

Auburn is riding an unbelievable high. They are playing like the last time I saw them play Alabama in Auburn. They were tenacious on defense and they were firing shots up with impunity and hitting most of them. They look like a team of destiny, but it will be incredibly difficult to pull it off without Okeke against the most methodical defensive team in the NCAA-the dreaded Virginia Cavaliers. Duke will probably be playing Texas Tech. Texas Tech and Virginia would be the most depressing Championship Game ever with scant offensive fireworks; so I would rather see an Auburn-Duke finale.

Any chance that someone offers a shite ton to steal Bruce from Auburn? UCLA has been awfully quiet

Would be shocking. AU has the $ to counter higher + already has booked his entire family up in TV / coaching staff

No blue blood is both hiring a coach with baggage AND paying him top 5 salary

Tech is good and Beard is an absolutely fantastic coach, but I think they'll beat either of these teams. I'd love to be wrong though

Bruce is a little on the sleazy side but the guy is a dayum good BB coach. I look for AU to move his salary high high once the jocks and socks have been turned in for this season.

It's OK to give the other fella credit for a great season.
