Auburn has got to be sick knowing they were a missed call from being in the title game and the team that they beat but for the missed call goes on to win the Title.

I wonder why kids take three point shots at the end of the game when the game is either tied or they are down by only 1 point. Culver is the best player on the floor; he should have drove the ball to the basket with 12 seconds on the clock...

Key was always a good defender; it's his offense that sucks.

Texas will keep Shaka Smart. Texas went to the Final Four and won the title--it was just in the NIT and not the NCAAT.

Being that it will take an announcement, I would not be surprised if it is Bucky. Pettway will be the holdover. If it is those 2, along with Hodgson, you may have the youngest P5 staff in the nation. I believe all 3 assistants will bring something to the table.

That's why I posted this. I may be way out there; only time will tell, but I said earlier when we were first posting about changing coaches that I thought Oats was special. The guy went to the NCAAT, at Buffalo, 3 out of the 4 years he has coached on the collegiate level. He even beat his former boss-legacy coach Bobby Hurley-in the NCAAT this year. :rolltide:

GenesChin, thanks for clarifying. It was an error on my part.

I agree; he should not do it that way. Oats should stick to his core principles; it will stop coaches from trying to shop their players. I don't think Trendon will go anywhere just because his high school coach will get a job. Trendon is not one of those inner city kids with no male leadership. He has a father and an older brother; he is likely to listen to them before he will make a life choice like this instead of his high school coach.

If Bucky is more qualified than Ya or he brings something else to the table that is beneficial in a way that takes some stress off of Oats, then you go with him.

More than likely Alavama will look like LSU in 17-18.
Thanks for the English lesson; you are correct. It is duly noted, but I think Alabama is not spelled with a V.

Yall might think what I am about to say sounds crazy, but do not be surprised if Alabama does not make some serious noise next year, assuming Kira and Trendon come on board. I truly believe Oats is one of those special coaches that come along once every decade. He will have us in the NCAAT next year and poised to go to the Round of 32, if not 16. It will all come down to how well he can get the team playing early in the season in order to get a good seeding. I fully expect a better result than Ole Miss had with Kermit, because more talent is at Alabama.

Texas Tech, Auburn, Virginia and Michigan State in the Final Four. There are no blue bloods save Michigan State. The TV ratings, which are now the highest ever, will probably take a dive. Auburn and Michigan State are the only 2 teams that play an exciting brand of basketball. Texas Tech is brutal on defense and Virginia is nearly as debilitating as Tech. Auburn and Michigan State are the best options for an exciting and well watched Championship.

Meanwhile, Alabama has made it to the NCAAT 20 times and is in the top 6 programs to make it to the NCAAT the most without a Final Four appearance.

Auburn is riding an unbelievable high. They are playing like the last time I saw them play Alabama in Auburn. They were tenacious on defense and they were firing shots up with impunity and hitting most of them. They look like a team of destiny, but it will be incredibly difficult to pull it off without Okeke against the most methodical defensive team in the NCAA-the dreaded Virginia Cavaliers. Duke will probably be playing Texas Tech. Texas Tech and Virginia would be the most depressing Championship Game ever with scant offensive fireworks; so I would rather see an Auburn-Duke finale.

I think its Hodgson as his Associate HC, Pett and Ya (until he can do better than Ya or Ya all of a sudden starts to successfully recruit). Pelphrey is done. He can probably get a gig coaching some team like Coastal Carolina or a SoCon school. If they are able to pull Trendon, the fledgling staff will grow closer.

Auburn does not excite me and I am only catching the last part of the game, but I am good with them making the Final Four. To do it without their best overall player is unimaginable. They are a team of destiny. This is going to make the rivalry even more intense. Auburn making the Final Four is going to speed up the arms' race; Alabama will soon be in the Final Four or at least the Sweet 16 in the very near future. The energy is high; Oats will keep the intensity. I feel good about the state of football and basketball in this State.

Craziest thing is Avery was a floor general.

Yep, his strength as a player was being a coach on the floor and he has 2 of the top 17 NBA playoff performances in assist to turnover ratio.

Shackelford=Carson Edwards in year 2

Herb is a TO machine. Avery was trying to play some of the guys like they would be expected to play in the NBA. I'm sorry, but play people in their positions. If a kid is just not good at handling the ball you should just not let him handle the ball. If he is a mid-range guy, let him be that. Do not try to help someone make it to the next level at the expense of the team. Your job as coach is to win. I prefer the approach of Izzo, Few, and Coach K prior to the one and done era where you take players with good fundamentals, tireless work ethic and a will to win than some ultra-talented player who just wants to play in the NBA after one year.

The same reason Steph Curry didn't have a lot of offers: he is not very athletic, not a pure point guard, not long and his defense needs lots of work. He can, however, light it up and has good handles. Rankings and offers seem to have more to do with the freakish athleticism and raw skill set than with shooters and fundamentally sound guys.
