We got a ways to go. Still pretty careless with the basketball and take too many contested layups for no reason. We also are still missing a lot of layups.
Oats did say in an interview today that the media arrived after they’d been practicing hard for awhile and they were tired. But it could’ve just been an excuse lol. Who knows. It’s probably a little bit of sloppiness and being tired

I saw a lotta good though.

Reese,Shackleford, and Petty were all playing smart and shooting well.

Whenever we inbounded from Under the basket we WERE SETTING SCREENS TO GET GUYS OPEN!!! It was so refreshing.

Javian looked really good, I expect him to get some serious minutes and maybe even start at the 5

Oats was getting on them about the sloppiness so that was a good sign

Saw more of good defensive play in that video than offensive plays. Hope we look better offensively in a regular game and please please learn to hit your layups.

What is with you and the Midwest? Where someone is from hardly relates to their success in coaching.

35 Minute Video of Practice

Very sloppy, but being the first practice, it'll take some time as they transition. I know we're ready for a new offense, but the effort and intensity they give on defense is going to keep us in a lot of games while they get comfortable with the new offense.

Going to have to play great defense to stay in games if Reese’ is the 5

“Reese was already gonna be there. I don’t know if ... Rojas never got -- when he got to us he was banged up already. He had some ankle issues. He never really went through a full workout with us. So I had never got to see him healthy with our guys. So I don’t know if he would’ve started or not. That would’ve had to have been determined. But Reese is already kind of our perfect four because he can shoot it and space the floor. He’s playing really well. So Reese is gonna play minutes there. We played smaller in Buffalo where we bumped out. If you looked at the teams we started the last two years there, we either started two point guards and a combo guard, or a point guard and two combo guards. Then we played a 6-foot-7 two-guard in Jeremy Harris kind of at the four. Well, Herb Jones can play the four. [John] Petty’s got size and can bump down. Those guys can bump down when we play small. But we can also go big and put Javian a little bit at the four. Because Rojas was really gonna play, like, the four for us because we really wanted to play more skill. Javian’s gonna be a skilled player on the perimeter a little bit. But I would anticipate us playing a little bit smaller because we’ve got more depth at the guard spot. You’ve got Beetle cleared, you’ve got Shackelford, Forbes, Kira [Lewis]. If Quinerly gets cleared. So if then if you bump down and play Herb, J.P. [Petty] down, then we’re playing a little smaller, which is the way I like to play, anyways. With more athleticism and speed and perimeter play on the floor. I would anticipate that kind of being the case, the way we play.”

Galin will start at the 5. Reese is playing the 4. But, from the sound of it, we'll probably be playing small a lot with no 5 on the floor. I think Fleming will be the backup big.

Sources: Iowa State's Rasir Bolton has received a waiver from the NCAA and is eligible to play during the 19-20 season. Averaged 11.6 PPG last year at Penn State. HUGE news for the Cyclones.

Quinerly please

Oats saying Shackleford came in ready to go makes me feel a little less anxious about Quinerly getting a waiver. We just need someone besides Kira and Bolden who can be the primary ball handler if they get hurt or in foul trouble. Obviously the more experienced guy would be preferable though.

If we make the tournament this year and don't have long runs where we just look offensively inept like with our last two coaching staffs... I will see this year as a big success.

At 6-foot-9, 190-pounds, Jabari Smith is a consensus top 10 prospect nationally. His measurables are next level and the upside is limitless. Last season, he tossed in 12.7 points, 6.7 rebounds, and 2 blocks per contest and was a key piece for Sandy Creek’s (GHSA Class AAAA) Final Four squad. The long framed junior will see an expanded role this year which will allow him to showcase more facets of his game. Regional programs such as Georgia, Georgia Tech, Florida State, and Alabama have already threw their names into the hat with offers, but bluebloods like Duke and Kentucky have started to sniff around. Monitor Smith’s progression closely and don’t be surprised if he ends up the top overall prospect in the 2021 class.

quote:

Over a one year span Kowacie Reeves Jr. grew six inches and made a quantum leap forward in his overall development. He now stands at 6-foot-5 and is much more than a spot up shooter. The bouncy junior finishes strong above the rim, creates shots off the dribble, and defends at a high level. Being 1:30 away from a (GHSA Class AAA) state championship game appearance two years ago and getting bounced in the Sweet Sixteen last year has Reeves Jr. eager to get Westside-Macon over the hump in 2019-20. Alabama, Clemson, Georgia, Georgia Tech, Florida, and Stanford to name a few have extended offers.

quote:

Peyton Daniels is a crafty player that facilitates well and scores in bunches. He patiently waited his turn running with SE United and it paid off big this summer. The 6-foot-1 lead guard reeled in a handful of high major offers and is primed to add to that list this school ball season. Daniels has the keys to the team and will be relied upon to guide Tri-Cities back to the promised land to defend its GHSA Class AAAAAA State Title. Alabama, Vanderbilt, Ole Miss, Georgia, Georgia Tech, Troy, and James Madison have pulled the trigger with offers.
