Five-star 2020 PG Daishen Nix has not narrowed down his recruitment as of yet but he said Arizona is one of the schools staying involved most. Alabama, Marquette, West Virginia and Washington are just SOME of the other programs doing the same. He’ll likely decide next spring.

Why isn't Hawkins getting any love on here? He stood out to me watching those videos...although i never played the game.

Because we haven't seen him do anything in a game yet and because we have been stuck watching our bigs stagnate for years. So naturally when we see them doing new things in that video we focus on that.

Probably because Oats is talking about the other bigs more than Hawkins. Hawkins is like most freshmen, he will need time to get bigger and stronger and adjust to college athletics.

I love Hawkins and think he is gonna be a big time player. But out of everyone he looked the most confused and out of shape to me. May take him a year IMO

The FOGs are out in full force hating on Oats for not being at some in state talent showcase(Pett is there) because Oats is out there looking at actually talented players from OOS at other events.

Unfortunately high school basketball in Alabama has stagnated except for a few select programs that produce a handful of SEC level talent at best. If we restrict our recruiting to inside the borders, we’ll never be worth a damn. Even in the Newton/Sanderson eras, they hit neighboring states regularly and pretty hard for talent. The FOGs bitching about that don’t know what the frick they are talking about. Kudos to Oats for having a familiar presence there in Pett but focusing his efforts on bigger and better things.

I don't agree that Coach should have been somewhere else other than the Elite 100 for Alabama. With it being his first year, I think it would have been good to shake hands of a ton of HS coaches that were there and to see some of the younger guys.
I do agree with you on the talent though. And I blame a lot of that on the AHSAA and how they limit coaches from being able to work with kids during the off season. Everything in this state is geared toward making Football king. Basketball Coaches in other states have comparatively unlimited access to their kids in the offseason vs what Alabama HS coaches have.

I’m not a big Herb Jones basher but why do people get so offended when people bring up that he wasn’t very good last year or that they don’t think he will play a lot this year?

I do think he plays a lot this year but it’s a fact that statistically he was Pretty bad. He was first on the team in turnovers and last in points per game among the regular rotation.

He also shot below 50% from the three point line which is mind boggling .

I think he plays a lot this year based on his defense, he can lock down the other teams best guard which is a great attribute in itself. Hopefully he improves on offense, I think he willl.

Think you meant FT line not 3-point line.

Think Oats likes Herb's game,he will use him if he can improve his long distance shooting some. People see potential in Herb. It may come out this year.

Haha, thank you. I can’t even list him low on a depth chart without people here losing their minds.

He hasn’t shown me shyt in 2 years, and I cant assume he’ll improve this year since he’s literally shown nothing in 2 seasons.

He’s just not good at basketball, nothing personal against him. I’d rather him ride the pine and Oats run with 10 guys who can all shoot, dribble, drive, and pass. Gary, Forbes, Q, Beetle, etc. seem like they can all do that.

I don’t understand why you wouldn’t want people who can play basketball on your basketball team.

His shtick is just played out. In a lot of his posts, he goes out of his way to mention how awful Galin and Herb are and how they will have no role on the team.

Almost every poster in this thread realizes just how far both players have to go. Most of us recognize that both players have at least some potential for improvement though.

The more I watch the practice videos, the more I hope we can hold onto Bryan Hodgson as an assistant.
