Yea, it would have been great if it would have just touched down in that one spot and then picked back up and not injure anyone.

You know what frick RENOVATION TO BDS! It doesn’t need a goddamn dime spent on it unless you are renovating the bathrooms and concessions. Otherwise, leave it the frick alone!! You are just spending money on it, to spend the money and show erybody who King Diddy Football is!! frick it, let all the other sports just die let football have all the damn money. Give them every last mother fricking dime.
I am so tired of them spending money where it isn’t needed just because football places an order. They could ask for gold plated toilet paper holders and the BOT would ask how many? frick this shite.

What we need to do is relocate those corpses across the street so that we can build a proper domed stadium. Or better yet... I've always been partial to Albert Speer's Nuremberg Stadium plan ... 400,000 thousand screaming crimson clad maniacs. Can you imagine. If Bama could pull off what the third Reich never could, and actually build that sucker. Wow just wow. It would stand for a thousand years.
We're just not thinking big enough.

Their current arena was built 20 years after ours.

I mean, I'd like a new arena too, but I don't really get all the angst about the renovation plans. It essentially WILL BE a new arena. They're gutting it and putting 115 million dollars into it. It's not like they're painting the walls and adding a couple of new light fixtures.
It looks pretty damn sweet to me. Maybe people don't like the half-tube shaped ceiling, but as long as it's nice, there's nothing wrong with being a little different than most others.

I might be wrong, but I believe a majority of the "angst" is because people don't believe it will actually happen. Or if it does happen, it will be 10 years down the road and will be a dollar store version of the planned renovation that was sold to everyone.

Well, if that turns out to be the case, I'll be pissed too. But, I don't think they had any reason to pretend there were going to be renovations if they didn't intend to do it. It's not like the fans are going to stop going because of the arena. If the team is good, fans will show up. And, I think/hope Oats' teams are going to bring plenty of excitement and get the ball rolling on the renovations.

Ok, now that I got that rant out of my system, I’m pissed because EVERYTHING takes a back seat to football. And I understand that and if it were circa 2006 I get why. But it’s not. BDS is a palace. I think they actually made the facade worse with that glass addition. And I honestly think it was better at the 92K version. You got at least a little air circulation at that iteration and most people were happy. Now we’re spending money just to be in a dick measuring contest with A&M and whoever else. Yes, you have to keep it nice and up to date. But at the expense of every other program?
Football is king. It is with me too. But I love all Bama sports. I want us to be good at all of them. You can’t keep putting another layer of diamonds on football while other sports are falling apart. Our natatorium is embarrassing. Coleman has had so many layers of lipstick on that pig it’s a joke. The nat had replacement plans drawn and approved 3 years ago. It’s still waiting. There are no plans to replace Coleman, just another coat of lipstick. Meanwhile, we’re doing unnecessary shite to BDS. It’s frustrating. And the time to do it is now. Football can’t stay on top forever. All the cash will wane some when we have the inevitable dip post Saban. The time to take care of these projects is now while we have the excess funds.

The plans that have shown for Coleman are not "lipstick". I really dont like the idea of making it so much smaller, but most of you do. If we get a decent product on the court, the old Coleman will be rocking. That has a whole lot more to do with the coaching staff than the facility. Playing at Coleman doesnt deter me from going to any of the games. Wed night at 8pm is another story. I personally dread the year or so of playing off campus. The University packaged the facilities upgrades with football because they know where the money is. It is what it is.

A few weeks ago we discussed that Alabama was heavily involved for two of the top transfer guards this spring, Jahvon Quinerly and RJ Cole, and that we believed that they would land one of the two. That came true on Sunday as Quinerly gave his commitment to Nate Oats’ program, one week after his official visit.
How Quinerly fits at Alabama remains to be seen, primarily because we have not had the chance to see who the real Jahvon Quinerly is in college, as he was a shell of himself last year compared to his days in high school. Furthermore, Oats has said that he wants to play fast but he has yet to coach a game at Alabama. Still, Quinerly is a super-talented guard that was rated as a five-star prospect for a reason. There is even a chance he could suit up for the Tide next season, as he could potentially receive a waiver to play immediately. If he does, a backcourt of Quinerly, Kira Lewis and Beetle Bolden, along with John Petty in the fold, could make Oats' first season in the SEC a good one.

If everything happens the way they advertise it, I’d be happy. But I’d be surprised if it happens close to what was described. The reason that Baylor creating a whole new arena when their current one is actually a very solid one and 20 years younger than Coleman bothers me is because we are a school with the deepest pockets in the NCAA and we’ve put this off for far too long already. And even in this initiative Coleman is the last thing getting worked on when it is the thing that needs the most work. We are running behind on funds and currently over budget and the plans for BDS are already receiving cuts apparently. I’d hope this is because they want to make sure we have the 115 million for Coleman, but I’d also feel foolish to actually believe that basketball won’t be the sport getting screwed out of the money.

Since Phase II (the basketball arena) wasnt supposed to begin until April of 2022, anything could happen/change. Baylor's arena is expected to cost 105 million, which is less than what we project ours will cost. The arena part of our facility will be larger and the size of Coleman will be much larger. Didnt we spend a good bit of money on the lower gym practice facility when we did the 25 million rehab? Surely that will stay intact. Baylor got a huge donation, but still needs to raise 30 million or so. (Edit--read it was a 4 million rehab which they say is 30 million in todays dollars).

Oats on the three point line moving back:

Alabama coach @nate_oats on the new NCAA rules approved today: “I like them. Anything to speed the game up, I’m all about that. If we get an offensive rebound, we aren’t going to be holding the ball for 20 seconds anyway.”
