Tevin Mack has the physical build & athletic ability I hope to see returning as well.
Coach Oats has got to be excited about what's coming in & returning for his 1st year. Our young men won 18 games last year with incompetent coaching & laughable, reckless play. I can't wait to possibly meet Coach Oats on the quad before a fall Saturday football game or the big Friday night fan introduction to the team this fall. It be great to see Coleman packed that night.

I’m surprised too. Was really looking forward to seeing how Donta tested.

Im not surprised at all donta isnt a good rebounder. Thats the most important thing for a big imo.

I thought he led the conference in rebounding last year.

Regardless I’m disappointed for him. He had some ups and downs, but they were mostly mental. If he had a more committed head coach then Donta might have been more focused too.

Hall isn't close to being physical enough to play in the paint in the NBA, and he's got no short to mid-range jump shot, so there's nothing there for the NBA to want....maybe abroad.

Having a shitty strength coach hurt Donta as much as anything. He gained zero size here and got destroyed everytime he faced a physical big.

But I do think he has the mechanics to develop a nice shot with proper coaching and hardwork. Hopefully a couple of years in the GLeague will help him develop.

8.8 RPG in 26 mpg is pretty good. Donta Hall lacks physicality, but he has some of the best hands I’ve seen from a Center coming from Alabama. He probably won’t get drafted, but wouldn’t be surprised if he took the JaMychal Green path to NBA relevancy.

Hall never developed a shot outside of the lane.

I mean i guess stats are stats but i hate when you guys bring up stats as if it makes something someone said wrong. Just like guys argued me Jr. was as good as Coleman because their stats were similar.

I’ll agree with you on Coleman, because his superior skill-set was visual. It was clear he was a way more skilled player. Grading someone on rebounding is way different, because it is 100% stat-driven.

I’m not a big stats guy either. They can be manipulated and interpreted to support so many different theories.

Only reason why I brought it up was because it’s all I have. I watched 60 minutes of Bama basketball all season and they were all against KY.

JMike led Alabama in scoring and rebounding his Jr and Sr years. He was a more skilled college player than Hall.

Donta's a totally fine rebounder. He can't defend the post though - he just gets mauled by stronger guys. Chris Silva was just tossing him around.

That being said, it's a great time for him to be trying to play NBA basketball because there aren't too many dominant post guys outside of Embiid, Davis, Jokic, Towns, maybe Cousins at times. He would have literally no chance against a guy like Embiid except that even Embiid would spend a lot of time aimlessly standing around at the 3 point line.

He could be a bench guy that comes in to play as a small ball 5 if he could shoot 35% from 3, improved his ball handling, passing, and got a little stronger. That's a lot of things to improve on though.

I never said Hall is a more skilled player, but he’s definitely a much better rebounder than Green was. Green led the team in rebounding because we were a horrific rebounding team back then. They’re 2 different players. Me referencing Green’s path to the NBA is because of the way he got there (undrafted and worked his way into the NBA).

If it wasn’t for his lack of physicality, I’d be very surprised if he went undrafted. He has a solid looking shooting stroke, and as his FT shooting improvement indicates it definitely is something he’s able to get better at.

Think we can add future targets to the OP? Or at least who we’ve offered to this point? Might help some people become more aware of them and make it easier to track since we are going after some pretty big fish for the foreseeable future.

I've definitely come around to the idea that free throw shooting is a great predictor of what type of shooter you really are.

Even if you go back to Trevor Releford as a freshman when he literally couldn't/wouldn't shoot 3's, you could see that he had a great stroke at the line. Eventually he turned into a good 3 point shooter.

It's not really just anecdotal - there's been NBA analytics stuff that says college free throw shooting is a great predictor of long-term NBA 3 point shooting.

It's one of the reasons why I think John Petty should be more in the "likes to shoot" camp than actually in the "good at shooting" camp. Although maybe some of his free-throw stuff is concentration, and 71% isn't terrible I guess (it's not "great shooter" numbers though).

I wonder if Avery ever even looked at free throw shooting in regards to recruiting? Or does anybody really? I legitimately don't know.

The UA Futures Circuit is playing in Hoover this weekend. I've got a kid that's playing in it this weekend. Should be fun to see some future stars as 8th graders that can really play.
