Why anyone would infer that about Ty is beyond me. He’s the polar opposite of Milroe in every sense.

Hearing Grubb say that the QB group has only thrown 4 picks combined (Ty only throwing 1) where this time last year they had thrown like 15 gives me some hope that games like Oklahoma and Michigan won't happen again.

Good catch! I totally forgot the guy who played like arse for three quarters didn't technically start the game... Which brings me right back to my original question: what exactly makes Ty "much better" than Coker?

I'm going to go out on a limb and say I think he meant Simpson is a better overall athlete than Coker was, which is true. Coker had a big arm but wasn't the most mobile and nimble on his feet. Though he did make a few excellent scrambles during the year, he started. But overall, he was a pure pocket passer who wasn't going to routinely beat you with his legs.

Whereas Simpson can beat you with his legs and scrambling ability. Physically, he's a more well-rounded athlete than Coker was, but that doesn't necessarily translate to "better quarterback". He'll have to play his way into that designation.

It wasn't just Milroe throwing picks. That happens to every QB. Just the nature of putting the ball in the air. But I've never seen a quarterback throw a pick to the EXACT SAME SPOT on the field pretty much back to back.

He did it vs OU, and the year before against Texas. Literally the same place both times in each game.

I think we're all hoping Ty is a more mobile AJ McCarron. If AJ had been able to run a QB draw every now and then, I don't see those 2011-2013 'Bama teams losing a game.

Why do you compare him to AJ? Their only commonalities are that they are white, Alabama QBs. They don’t throw alike and are very dissimilar athletes and personalities. IMO, Ty is a better passer, and without question, he is a far superior athlete. Ty appears to be a better teammate - more approachable and collaborative while still holding them accountable.

Bama still won a natty with an average QB in Coker.

Not even close to the same OC. I think coker unfairly beat on around here.

I appreciate Coker for what he was as an athlete and how far he came in a very short period under the coaching at Alabama. Lane did wonders with him in a very short period of time. I can only imagine how good he could have been if Kiffin had had him three to four years in his system. He would have been, no doubt, a Heisman-contending, potentially winning it. But how far Lane brought Coker in that short amount of time is amazing.

Athleticism (elusiveness + speed) of Bama QBs in the last 20 years:

Sims
Hurts
Milroe
Young
Tua
Coker
JPW
McElroy
Mccarron
Jones
===

I'd say Simpson would probably go between Milroe and Young. He is much more athletic than people seem to realize.

Yeah, many people don't realize (but will this season) how fast Ty Simpson is. He's not Jalen Milroe fast, but make no mistake, he's not "mid", as the kids would say. He's more elusive than Milroe, just not the straight-line runner Milroe was. He's a better scrambler than Milroe as well. I've had more than one person who's attended scrimmages tell me that.

I meant that he would have AJ's consistency and emphasis on taking care of the football/throwing it away if necessary.

But wow. I've never seen anyone have so little appreciation for what AJ did for 'Bama. Ty is already a better passer AND teammate? We all want him to be successful, but this is a pretty strange take.

I can understand why you would think that but I didn’t mean it that way. I have great appreciation for AJ and what he accomplished at Alabama and felt he was underrated until his Sr season. He QB’ed two NC teams and played great in both games. I just believe that Ty is more talented. He is definitely much more athletic, he looks to me like a better thrower of the football, but that is open to question.

Ty will also have a much better OC and better WRs. The OL may not be as good and the RBs are definitely not as good as AJ’s. Part of it may be wishful thinking since Ty is now.

Well, for all we know it could have been. In all likelihood it wasn't just him, but he did have 11 picks on the year and didn't take care of the ball well enough. To the point it cost us at least two wins. There were of course games we one because of him. But for comparison, AJ threw 15 picks his whole career at Bama. My point is, it seems like the QB room as a whole is taking care of the ball. QBs throw picks, sure, but less is better than more - and that was the point.

Better late than never. Milroe should have been demoted to wildcat qb last year.

They are both white, have two arms and legs, ten toes, and have brown hair. There are way more similarities than you think.

Everything about the Ty Simpson P.R.machine has been air tight so far. His statement to the press are impeccable. His loyalty cannot be questioned. The hair looks good.

Now for the part between the lines.

How many practices have you attended? Cause he hasn't really shown much in game.
Seen everything from 4.4 to 4.8 forty time for Ty...
Bryce has estimated 4.56 and milroe has 4.37.
AJ... 4.91 40 time.

I'm not saying he isn't athletic. I'm just saying, we haven't seen anything really. Unless you've been in practice.... Have you?

To be fair, there's been enough public reports from people who have attended practices to gather he has above average athleticism and mobility. Also, the little time he has played there have been plays where hes scrambled that you can tell he has above average speed. Its not like we absolutely know ANYTHING about the guy.
