This spring and summer will be Slade's interview to become a grad assistant for the WR room. I think Slade will end up being a very good WR coach and recruiter in the next 3 to 5 years.
If Saban sees Slade teaching the younger guys to read coverages and how to run routes, he may be there as long as Saban stays. Once Saban retires, Slade will likely have lots of coaching options down the road. Any OC that uses option routes in his system will jump on a young guy who can help him teach them.

Saban needs to use game time when the game is in hand to run the offense and defense with back ups for situations like we had this year. I remember in 2017 he ran the offense with Tua and the 2017 receivers when the game was out of reach. Tennessee and Vanderbilt come to mind. That playing time paid off in the national championship game.
I think we are all in agreement there, and I think Saban will get on board and read the tea leaves, too.
It's honestly surprising we didn't do more of that this year, because it felt like Tua/Mac/Bryce got to run a lot more of the offense as backups over the past few years than we saw this season.

Not sure what he’s going to do. He has a master’s degree, 3 SEC rings, and a Natty ring, so Bama has definitely lived up to their end of the bargain. We will know shortly because the decision has to be made in the next couple of days.

Yep - whatever he decides, he's had a very solid career here.

mean, it wasn't that horrendous
No, it was horrendous. Anyone could have gotten the result he did when his QB is doing magic tricks to make his playcalling seem acceptable.
We didn't even implement signficant pre-snap motion, movement or shifts till SECCG. Then we forgot all of that in the rematch.
The guy is a horrible playcaller. His best plays usually were the scripted ones he started the game with after which he would never revisit.
The guy literally made me want to physically hurt him.

2 natty rings and 4 SEC rings are better.
1 more year Slade!!!

Basically we had one QB. Could not risk injury to Bryce . So looking to next year back up QB development is necessary. It will be interested who gets those snaps.

blame BOB, who shortened our rotation so badly not giving these kids real experience (spare me the late game snaps where they aren't even running routes and just their to block and run clock).
100%. Plus, Wiggins deserves some of the blame. He decides the rotation during the game.

The fact he was a 5* means more to some Bama fans that the quality of his actual play.

Facebook Link. Sorry
Here’s the whole interview. Starts at 1:26. Sorry for Facebook link, that’s the only place with the whole thing. It’s a pretty lighthearted/fun interview. Honestly one of his best imo.

No, I meant when Tua backed up Jalen, when Mac backed up Tua, and when Bryce backed up Mac, they got to run more of the offense in mop-up. They didn’t just come in to hand off and run the clock out.
I did some digging and it turns out I’m wrong, though.
Our 2021 backup QBs attempted 24 passes in 15 games.
In 2020, Bryce as the backup only attempted 22 passes in 12 games.
In 2019, Mac attempted 21 in the first 6 games before Tua got hurt, so he was getting to throw a lot.
In 2018, our backups attempted 83 passes, but Jalen Hurts was 70 of those, so that doesn’t really count.
In 2017, Tua attempted 53 passes NOT counting the national championship game.
So in sum, Tua and Mac got to throw a lot as backups, but Bryce didn’t throw anymore in mop up last year than our guys did this year (which was surprising to me because we had more blowouts last year).

I'm not going to continue to argue with you. The goal of offense is to score points. He scored a lot. So maybe it wasn't because of him, but it wasn't a horrendous year offensively. We scored 40 points a game and had to replace seven NFL draft picks, including five first rounders.
We had a linebacker and a wide receiver playing RB because of injuries. We lost two key wideouts down the stretch. Our situation at RT and C were BAD for most of the year. There were plenty of reasons it could have been horrendous and we still ended up scoring 40 points per game.

Yup, so that means no experience at WRs. Brooks, Holden, Earle, one of the newcomer... Definitely getting a WR out of portal.

Yep - guy played his arse off and had some big moments for us.
Wonder what his plan is and what his NFL feedback was? Kind of interesting.

Is it pretty certain Metchie is going to declare?

Metchie hasn't announced yet, I'm holding out hope.

I haven't seen so much as a guess about any of the other guys, but maybe people have information out there.
