Then why did Kelly try to bring him to LSU as the OC? Why have other teams tried to hire him away from ND
Pretty sure Rees stayed in hopes of taking over for Kelly or Freeman. Doesn't look like that would happen so now he's looking.

Bingo! Opinions are like assholes. Everybody has one.

Too bad internet poster Tuscaloosa isn't the pilot. We'd be able to get all sorts of inside info

Did he state that somewhere to the media yesterday?
Playing devils advocate. Maybe TR was the last scheduled interview and they would make a decision once they had checked everyone off their list? Just seems like that's a lot of eggs to put in a basket for a guy that hasn't been interviewed yet.

Not trying to be an arse but where was Bama in those same rankings? Higher? Shouldn't we be striving for better?
If it turns out to just be a lack of talent at ND then I'll be glad to admit I'm wrong.

and we were?
Just wondering if this choice is an improvement.

I don't think there is any world where you can compare the personel Notre Dame had across the board on offense 1-11 from 2020 to 2022 to the personel Alabama had.

Very interesting, thanks for the image and info!

What team do you think has more talent us or notre dame?

I get it but there's nothing in his resume where we can see how he would do with our kind of talent. We only have his time at ND to look at. Just saying it's a big gamble.

I agree - that's why I'm in the wait and see camp.

We have more talent, but it's not like ND is bereft of talent.
ND is #10 in the 247 talent composite, so it's not like Rees was working with walk-ons. I think Riley getting so much production out of a TCU team with a talent composite ranked #32 is much more impressive.
But as SoG said, hiring Rees as OC would be a wait-and-see kind of hire.

If it's just based on that, then who cares who we hire. Any college coach leaving to come here will have more talent.

We were higher, but we also had the #1 pick in the draft at QB compared to a pair of bad QBs that Notre Dame trotted out. Other than TE, we were also considerably better at the skill positions. To take what Notre Dame has had on offense and put up 2 fop 20 FEI performances is actually impressive, and much better than I expected before seeing those numbers.
That doesn’t guarantee his success here, it doesn’t tell us about his creativity and feel for playcalling, but it is a data point to inspire a bit more optimism than I initially had when I heard his name.

Hiring Rees as OC seems like a real head scratcher. I would've thought we could hire a much better OC, but will trust Saban on this one. He hasn't been perfect on his coordinator hires, but he's been dang good. Hopefully he pans out if hired.

I think that is very much skewed towards defense and offensive line for their 247 ranks. Their skill talent, as we know from matching up with them, just isn't good enough to beat elite teams when they can't run it the way they want. Just isn't at a level that is even close to able to win 1 on 1 matchups vs elite teams.

All but one candidate (Pruitt) will get trashed. You can take that to the bank.
