I haven't given myself a deadline. I'll either become convinced at some point that he's fine, or I won't.

We are now #3 in scoring offense and #28 in scoring defense.

Apologize my arse! Two thought from yesterday:

We heard all week that the plan was to simplify the defense to make it easier for the backers and to take away some of Ole Miss's pre-snap reads and keys. Mission accomplished, and our guys were allowed to just play ball and not be concerned about being in the perfect call to counter the offense. So we're supposed to apologize for Golding apparently getting out of the way and letting the players play and the talent to take over? And even if that isn't the case, what's that saying about even a blind squirrel finding a nut every now and then?

Secondly, after last year giving up almost 700 yards and over 40 points, the gauntlet was thrown down in Saban's eyes. I'd bet my last dollar that the head coach's fingerprints were all over that game plan and he's been working on it all off-season. So again, no, I'm not apologizing to Golding for getting a masterpiece handed to him.

So when Bama’s defense plays well, Saban gets the credit but when it’s bad, then Golding gets the blame?

So Saban threw down the gauntlet after last year and he worked all off-season over that game plan? And he didn’t work on a similar masterpiece to put in place for a game as important as Florida, he just prepared one for Ole Miss and no one else? And his DC had nothing to do with it?

I had questions about Golding after 2019; but other than Ole Miss and UF last year, I think Golding had a good year. He made good adjustments at halftime, called good games in the playoffs, against Notre Dame but especially against Ohio State. Our defense led the SEC in scoring defense and, in two defensive efficiency rankings (which take into account FBS games, quality of offensive teams faced, and ignoring points in garbage time), Bama’s defense was ranked in the top 10 nationally (#7 in ESPN’s FPI, #8 in F+). We’ll see how this year plays out but currently, I think both rankings have Bama’s defensive efficiency at #4…

Saban doesn’t tolerate incompetence; he got rid of Lupoi quickly after just one season as DC. He’s cut ties with OCs and other position coaches fairly quick as well. Golding has been on staff for 4 seasons now; if he sucked as bad as a lot of folk here think, Saban would’ve cut him loose long ago. One thing Saban wouldn’t have done is prop Golding up for multiple seasons instead of firing him or finding him a safe landing elsewhere, that’s not his style…so I’ll assume, as long as Saban keeps him on staff, that Golding’s not some incompetent boob…

Defense isn’t really playing bad, they just need a crash course in tackling 101.

Golding in the process of making A&M's trash offense light up the scoreboard.

How many times are we going to do this? A better question may be how many times will we need to do this.

This is what I meant. The defense will play an occasional good game surrounded by a lot more bad.
