Well, NIT this year and we'll be fricking terrible next year

I'm not as certain as I was before Ferguson dicked us over, but I'd still be willing to bet we'll be better. Losing Retin sucks, but we still add a lot. I heard from a lot of people that watched practices in preseason say that King looked like our best player. We'll add Ingram back in. Key has a college ready game and body. Davis will surprise some people, and Avery said he was their top ranked JUCO guy. I'm also comforted that each year we lose a stud, someone always seems to step up. Green / Mitchell --> Releford --> Levi --> Retin.

I'm not too worried about next year. With the players we have coming back and the players we have coming in, we should have a tournament worthy team, NCAA not NIT

Cheer up fellas. We knew what this year was when it began, but we started playing well and got greedy as fans. If you aren't still thoroughly pleased with how much Avery got out of this team then I don't know what to tell you.

This is just year one in what should be a longish run with Avery. And this is Alabama basketball, not Alabama football. Stay patient and invested, because we are going to better next year with or without Ferguson.

We are definitely in a deep hole that's going to be difficult to crawl out of.

Nonsense.

This team should not be where it is now. They have overacheived, which is a testament to both them and CAJ but to say Bama is is some massive hole just is not true.

We lose Retin, but we have TWO players on the roster right now that are probably better than anyone on the team other than him and at least two talented recruits coming in next season.

Also remember Retin was here 4 years. He did not become talent overnight, he just was not developed by the previous staff. What's to say there aren't other diamonds that just need to be polished? Hall, in particular, looks like he has the potential to be a dominating post player.

We had a disappointing finish, that is all. If you want to see a deep hole, just look at Auburn post Cliff Ellis.

Yea - 3 weeks ago we were posting lineups and marveling at how deep we would be. Now we are going to be Missouri because we lost to Arkansas and Ferguson left?

Losing Ferguson hurts, big time, but it doesn't take us from NCAA team to sub-500.

Jerry Palm has been as high on our tournament status as anybody, but he now has us in his first four out. Safe to say we need to win at Georgia and then at least two in Nashville. If we don't beat Georgia we'll have to win the whole thing next week.

Maybe this is just more to keep my emotions in check, but short of beating Georgia, beating Kentucky and then beating A&M/South Carolina..........I see no way we make the tournament.

Our RPI is 68 and we have 2 sub-100 losses at home in the last 2 weeks.

Not to mention, all this relies on this hypothetical world where we win @ Georgia then beat Kentucky and another very good team. The team that I have watched the last 3 games is not capable of doing those things. Not even close, really.

Oh not at all, I think losing our next two and waiting on the NIT is far more likely. Was just saying what it'd take to pull it off

It did, but realistically CAJ took that team further than anyone ever expected them to go. Hell, RO was the only consistently sound D-1 player we could put on the court, and we've got several players who have no business playing major D-1 ball anywhere. If he brings some talent in and can have them playing as hard as they've played this year, we'll be fine.

And Retin doesn't even look like the same player he was his first three years. Gotta think Avery Johnson had a lot to do with his drastic improvement seemingly overnight.

Not sure if Ken Pom's statistics would back this up, but I feel like we've slowed our pace big time since the LSU game which has made us solely a half court team where Retin is the only one who can create as opposed to playing a bit faster which was leading to guys being able to get open shots.

Well, last night summed up the entire season for me. Just good enough to keep it interesting till the end, but not good enough to make it to the dance.
Retin worrying more about dribbling between his legs than getting past the time line
Kessens not being able to finish at the rim
Nobody hitting free throws when we had to have them
4 or 5 empty trips in the middle of the half when Ark was struggling to score and we could have taken control of the game.

My hats off to CAJ for keeping this team in the conversation, but we need a lot of help on the offensive end.

I definitely agree. Offense has become really stagnant and there seems to be a mentality to want to just let Retin do everything.

Ok I know there's probably a 99% chance we make the NIT but I just want to keep hope alive just in case we get hot in these next few games and go on a miraculous run (I know we won't, so don't kill me lol). IF somehow we won at UGA, and 2 in the SEC tourney, we would finish at 20-13 (9-9). Would that be good enough?

That's the minimum we need to do tp seriously get back into the conversation, but there's no way to know for sure without knowing results from other bubble teams and other conference tournaments.

I don't think so considering the losses to MSU and Arkansas over the last few weeks. It would take a huge win in the tournament.

1) Texas A&M 12-5 23-7
2) Kentucky 12-5
3) Vanderbilt 11-6
4) LSU 11-6
5) South Carolina 10-6

6) Ole Miss 9-8
7) Arkansas 9-8
8) Georgia 8-8
9) Alabama 8-9
10) Florida 8-9

11) Mississippi State 6-11
12) Tennessee 6-11
13) Auburn 5-12

TONIGHT

Georgia @ South Carolina

Saturday

Ole Miss @ Tennessee
Vandy @ aTm
LSU @ Kentucky
Auburn @ MSU
Alabama @ Georgia
South Carolina @ Arkansas
Florida @ Missouri

If we beat Georgia, we'd be 9-9 and would take the tiebreaker from Florida if they win at Missouri. Georgia likely loses tonight, putting us in a three way tie for 8th going into the weekend. If Ole Miss and Arkansas lose Saturday and we win, we lose the tie breaker to them.

So anywhere from 8-10 is where we sit. Which means:

Noon SEC Network Game 2 - No. 9 seed vs. No. 8 seed

or

6 p.m. SEC Network Game 4 - No. 10 seed vs. No. 7 seed

Game 2 would mean we play the #1 seed at noon on Friday. Game 4 would mean we play #2 seed at 6.

So there are definitely opportunities. Main game to keep an eye on other than ours is aTm and Kentucky. We really need Kentucky to get the 2 seed if we're going to end up as the 8/9.
