Four-Star SF Billy Richmond names top 8 schools
High four-star small forward Billy Richmond is down to eight schools, he tells On3. Moving forward, the 6-foot-6, 200-pound rising senior will consider Alabama, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisville, LSU, Memphis, Miami, and Texas.
Richmond has not yet taken any official visits, however, he’s unofficially visited both Kentucky and Memphis in the past. He’s also scheduled five upcoming official visits — LSU on September 8-10, Kentucky on September 15-17, Memphis on September 29-31, Kansas on October 6-8, and Alabama on October 20-22.
Along with his eight finalists, the Memphis native also received offers from Villanova, Kansas State, UConn, Michigan, Mississippi State, Seton Hall, and others.
Richmond ranks as the No. 32 overall prospect in the 2024 class, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He’s also the No. 14 small forward in the class.
It should also be noted that Richmond’s father, Billy Richmond Jr., played for John Calipari at Memphis from 2002-04. Richmond also played last high school season with Kentucky freshman Aaron Bradshaw and DJ Wagner at Camden High.
Richmond talks programs involved
In a recent interview with On3, Billy Richmond discussed several schools involved in his recruitment.
Kentucky: “It’s kind of like a home environment. I’ve been there a couple of times. I’ve got friends and brothers up there in DJ (Wagner) and Aaron (Bradshaw). They have a great coaching staff.”
Alabama: “It just really fits my game style. Big guards come out of Alabama like Brandon Miller. Coach Nate (Oats) is a great coach.”
Kansas: “I was kind of a Kansas fan when I was young. I’ve been to a couple of games when I was younger because my uncle used to live out there. They’ve just been watching my games and staying in touch.”
Richmond also mentioned previously that head coaches from Memphis, Kentucky, and Alabama all have their head coaches spearheading his recruitment.

Wow. It's nasty out there on the recruiting trail. Absolutely nasty right now.

I would laugh at Auburn but after the Sherrell news, you can’t laugh too loud. I’m still optimistic we land Sherrell, but it’s crazy what NIL and college recruiting has become.
You literally have to recruit every player every day. Even the ones you feel you have sewn up, even the ones already on your team. Because there is always someone in their ear. It’s gotten ridiculous.

it looks like our strategy is to sign as many 5 stars/ top 50 only players as we can early, then look to the spring transfer portal to get good players we can't get from high school early.
The best thing that could happen for our recruiting is to have Nelson and Estrada ball out and drafted high. It would cement us as a top place for elite transfers to raise their stock. Last draft, with Miller and Clowney, helped us with elite freshmen, as the 24 targets shows. If Nelson and Estrada ball out we could become an absolute fricking monster on the trail.

Trentyn Flowers, a five-star prospect who reclassified and signed with Louisville this spring, is leaving the program to play professionally in Australia.
We recruited Flowers pretty heavily before he chose Louisville.

Yep. If i remember correctly, there was a of "the sky is falling" around here when he picked Louisville instead. Talk about a blessing in disguise.

10 steals from the 2023 college basketball transfer portal
The college basketball transfer portal reached an all-time high in the 2023 cycle. While On3 kept good track of the players as they entered, not every commitment is a one-to-one comparison. Some players are simply fits in new locations. While these ten players discussed might not be the ten best players to enter the 2023 college basketball transfer portal, they are ten steals, players who could play a significant piece for their new team.
quote:
CG Aaron Estrada (Alabama)
Height/Weight: 6-3/195
Year: Grad Transfer
Previous School: Hofstra
2022-23 Stats: 20.2 points, 5.5 rebounds, 4.3 assists, 1.5 steals
The Skinny: Aaron Estrada was one of only 26 in men’s D1 college basketball who averaged over 20 points per game last season. With his productive numbers, he has also been named back-to-back CAA Conference Player of the Year. Nate Oats has shown he likes to play with two guards who can initiate the offense. Estrada should slide nicely next to returning lead man Mark Sears to give the Crimson Tide a backcourt pairing that can dribble, shoot, and pass.
