We may not can afford what they can for a whole roster but when it comes down to one player I think we can compete. I bet we gave Estrada a very good NIL deal he was one of the most highly coveted players in the portal, and I am sure we will offer Nelson a good deal comparable to whatever Arkansas offers.

ESPN updated their portal rankings yesterday

They have

Estrada 12th
Kaluma 13th
Nelson 17th

here's what they say about each

quote:

12. Aaron Estrada, 6-3, PG, Sr., Hofstra Pride
Committed to Alabama
Won back-to-back CAA Player of the Year honors after putting up huge numbers during his two seasons at Hofstra. Averaged 19.3 points, 5.6 rebounds and 4.6 assists, shooting nearly 35% from 3.

quote:

13. Arthur Kaluma, 6-7, F, Soph., Creighton Bluejays

A player who has been on NBA radars for a couple of years, Kaluma is keeping his professional options open while also entering the portal. Averaged 11.8 points and 6.0 rebounds last season, improving as a 3-point shooter from his freshman to sophomore season

quote:

17. Grant Nelson, 6-11, PF, Jr., North Dakota State Bison

A potential NBA draft prospect, Nelson burst onto the national radar early in the season thanks to his size, skill set and shooting range out to the perimeter. Earned first-team All-Summit honors after averaging 17.9 points and 9.3 rebounds.

I'll just be brutally honest - if we don't get Nelson, with everything about him as a player, his needs, our strong points, our needs, etc lining up PERFECTLY for a fit...............Imma be real real real sad.

George maybe you can explain to me why saying that we need Nelson to care more about system and draft potential than NIL to get him over Arky causes such consternation? Is it not true?

I have no clue what we can offer compared to Arkansas in terms of NIL on a player by player basis or in the aggregate.

I do know that if Nelson chooses Arkansas it's 100% because of NIL, because everything he needs (as told to him by NBA scouts) fits exactly what we offer. And that isn't a shot at Arkansas because other types of players fit them better. But this guy is almost created in a lab to play in our system and on top of that would walk into a place where he is the clear #1 guy from day 1. And if we lost him because of NIL.....that would REALLY be a bad sign in terms of how we can compete in the NIL game.

Do players not have to declare what they receive in NIL each year?

No, but they should.

Agree with all of this. Arkansas can drop a heavier NIL bag but if he is focused on long term success compared to short term, we're the obvious pick. If Arkansas sells him on a role on the team and he gets a bigger back? That would hurt for a bit.

He's the perfect fit for Alabama and hopefully he sees that as well on his trip.

I'm sure they have to declare it for tax purposes but I guess it's not public record. Would be nice to know what schools are throwing out there to players. It will probably be part of the newer rules that will come out after the government hearings.

Would not be surprised for them to offer Gonzag as basketball and sports other than football. They seem to want to have the top hoops conference in college sports.

Insane hoops conference if nothing else. Also you could argue that Jim Mora deserved COY honors last season

I think Rylan Griffen is gonna have a huge year this year and is gonna end up being our best player

I’m dreaming of a starting lineup of

JQ/Sears
Sears/Estrada
Griffen
Kaluma
Nelson

From an Arkansas recruiting expert: “Nelson and his camp want to go somewhere where he can have an expanded role and increase his draft stock. Arkansas can throw a bag at him but can’t guarantee a major role like Bama.”
