Nate is set to meet with Michigan decommit Papa Kante. He seems to be a real 5. It does come with a little shade of doubt about Bediako or Pringle returning.

I don't think that's the case concerning Bediako or Pringle.
Papa has decent shot mechanics so with a little skill work and extra time in the gym putting up shots shoot I could see him being a stretch four.
Just my opinion.

2024 four-star Derrion Reid updates his recruitment
Derrion Reid ranks as the No. 75 overall prospect in the 2024 class due to his feel, IQ and ability to put the ball on the deck and find his teammates.
His skillset on the floor has caught the eyes of evaluators and coaches alike, with several high majors in pursuit.
"It's been good," the 6-foot-7 power forward said of his recruitment. "It has been the same schools for now: Alabama, Georgia, Florida State, Georgia State, LSU, Mississippi State and Missouri."
Reid has taken some unofficial visits but no officials as of yet but plans to change that in the coming months.
"Not officials, I plan on taking officials after wrapping all of this [AAU] up and making my decision before high school," he said.
He told 247Sports that he hopes to visit each of his suitors that he mentioned and further shared his thoughts on some of those programs involved.
Alabama: "Right after they lost their assistants, the assistants hit me up and told me what was going on that they got new jobs and stuff but the other people that are still there still hit me up and stuff so it's all love over there."
Florida State: "They hit me up and have been to a couple of games. I like them. I got a good relationship with the coaches and they got a good connection with my high school coach."
Georgia: "I have been up there a lot of times. Staying close to home doesn't have a draw, it doesn't matter to me. It's all love over there. I got a great relationship with them. The assistants hit me up all of the time asking what I am up to and all of that."
Georgia State: "Those guys are like my brothers. My point guard committed over there and I hear from them all of the time. I just FaceTimed them the other day."
Mississippi State: "They hit me up all of the time, they be on it. I like it over there. They're building it up and got a good team."
What is going to ultimately be the deciding factor for the four-star recruit?
"Definitely the connection with the coaches and the staff, how they feel about me and where I can fit in at. Ultimately, looking for what is best for me," he said.

I'd love to get Estrada,Mack, and Wrightsell.
How about Estrada, Wrightsell, and Papa Kante. Kante is more Oats' kind of big. Plus Mack more likely to go to South Carolina.

Good for JD. Looks like an extra year of learning the game paid off. 13.2 ppg with 7.7 apg is great, and against better competition. Sucks we didn't get to see him play to his potential, but I'm glad he's getting there.

Papa Kante is a pretty badass name. Here's his scouting report from 247
He's a athletic big with a long wingspan. Sounds like a project, but an ideal big for Oats.
People keep saying that it's not worth a scholarship on a project. But I think that's dumb. Being able to develop a player within your system is advantageous. And freshmen won't win you rings. Otherwise Kentucky would have a shitload under Cal. There's also 13 scholarships. Most teams play 7-8 guys. What are you gonna do with the other 4 or 5?
You probably will have 1 or 2 guys who play very limited minutes, waiting for an injury to see more minutes. But let's be honest. Most of those guys will want to transfer if they're only getting 4-5mpg as a junior. I think we can sell the fact that our system is an NBA style modern system. But damn near everyone if these guys grew up being the man on their teams. Patience isn't a virtue nowadays.
Go look at the recruit rankings of players from UConn. Nobody on their team was a top 5 recruit. It's, you want guys that can give you 5-10 as a freshmen. But really, you want guys who hit their college peak as a sophomore or junior. Especially at the guards. It's very rare that a freshmen guard is dominate. Look at the difference in JD this year, even though he's playing at a higher level. Freshmen guard usually get their arse handed to them.
This isn't football. Basketball recruiting is so much different, it's in another universe. Ideally, we'll get to the point where we are only recruiting 2-3 high school guys, and transfers for the rest. It's why, imo, keeping guys like Griffen was so important, and losing Bradley sucked.

Kante has a physically imposing frame with good size, broad shoulders, a strong body, and reported 7-foot-4 wingspan. He can be a dominant rebounder and active shot-blocker. He rim-runs well, is just starting to utilize his big body to seal for easy buckets inside, and has made a lot of progress with his hands and reactions in quick catch-and-finish situations. Kante also has good touch and footwork, but becomes less efficient when trying too hard to prove his face-up skill set. He has become a consistent free-throw shooter and isn’t incapable of knocking down an occasional open rhythm three, but too often picks-and-pops instead of rolling hard to the rim, settles for tough-twos in the mid-post area, or stops the ball with too many fakes and pivots trying to create his own shot. Defensively, he’s physical in the post and fairly mobile hedging ball-screens for a player his size, albeit a true center and not overly switchable. Overall, he has good size, measurables, a college ready body, and is an asset on the glass and defensive end. His offense continues to develop, but will likely need to be simplified at the next level.
