If we can pull Estrada and Mack to go with Walton I will feel really good about our portal season. And then if you wanna add that CSF kid as the 4th guy great. I don’t think the CSF kid being your top portal pickup is a good sign tho.

I’m not overly impressed with Mack or the kid from Cal State. Mack looks slow and unathletic. He doesn’t seem to be fast enough to play at our pace. I honestly don’t see the hype on wrightsell. He has a funny looking shot and doesn’t seem overly athletic.

I’ll try to surprise you next time then. There’s no way you look at Mack and think he’s a good fit for our system. Maybe it would be better if someone not me said it.

Did we watch the same guy. He is skilled and physical which is what we need. He is a much much better Rojas and very similar to a Nick Perkins at Buffalo under Oats.

Mack will start at the 4 IMO if we get him.

Mack is most definitely skilled for an undersized big. He's extremely physical and that's what you need in the SEC conference and he can really shoot it from deep.

From the highlights I have seen of Estrada, I don't really care for him. Why? Because his game looks a lot like Quinnerly's. He is a finesse player. He weaves his way through traffic down low and then shoots that little scoop-shot lay-in.

It has become very obvious that guards must have a physical style to play both in the SEC and in the NCAA Tourney. Active feet and hands as well as a little physicality shuts down the finesse game. Q really struggled when teams had active and physical bigs.

It is what it is.

He's a banger and has a nice shooting stroke. The tempo may be an adjustment though. Wofford was near the bottom in offensive tempo last season and he's on the bigger side for his height.

Nate Oats knows what he wants in his system and I thank God we have a system.

I think he moves just fine for a 4, especially for a guy his size. My concern comes from him being a zero on rim protection (at least in the way of blocking shots) while playing big minutes at the 5 against lesser competition (having 3 rim protectors in our starting unit is what made us so great defensively). I've heard reports that he's switchable defensively, which is very good and maybe his form of rim protection will come from taking charges instead.

Offensively, I think he'll be fine, but probably not as effective as he could be given the fact that posting up is his strength. He has a solid shot though with a very quick release for a big.

He reminds me a lot of when we picked up Gurley (less rim protection but a quicker release). Better player than he is a fit with us, but I certainly trust Oats to make it work.

Anyone who doesnt like BJ Mack or Estradas game or thinks they wouldnt be a food fit here is either trolling or doesnt know basketball, both are great players and would be great additions for us.

That’s just burying your head in the sand. Mack’s 3PT% has been very poor aside from one season on low volume, he’s not very athletic, and he really struggles to create havoc defensively

After watching some highlights, I like Mack.

LINK

Big dude with a post game and can hit a spot up 3. Having someone with a legit post game is wondering I'd love to see with us playing 4 out. Especially since he can still step outside to keep defenders honest. He'd be a great pick up.

He shot 32% and 34% in two other seasons, if you think thats ‘very poor” for a power forward you dont know basketball.

Clowney shot 28% from three last year.

We need someone with a post game too, would be one more thing that other teams have to deal with, not having anyone that could do that last year hurt is the way teams were defending us to take away our threes and driving lanes like SDSU did.

Someone like Mack couldve helped a lot in that game.

Resorting to the “you don’t know basketball” card. Classic. That’s how you know you lost the argument.

He was one of the worst 3PT shooters in the country. Just proving my point

I think Oats is looking at the UCONN model and trying to adjust. He saw the success they had with the way they used Sanogo and wants to add that to our system. I think we could have used Gurley a little more that way and he would have done more and probably helped us.

We had plenty of open threes against SDSU. The issue was we only had 3 above average shooters and all of them were cold.
