How the roster next year looks right now (assuming Clowney is gone and no one transfers and the RJ Johnson rumors are true)

G

Sears
Bradley
Burnett
Griffen
Cosby

F

Mouhamed Dioubate
Sam Walters

C

Bediako
Pringe

I like our guards and centers a lot, need to add an experienced SF and a PF for sure and at least one more guard.

Arkansas brought in 5 transfers this season.

It's hard to compare with Arkansas though. JB Hunt, Walmart, and Tyson Chicken are providing them all the NIL money they need up front to sign whichever players they want. A one year deal is fine with most transfers, and Arkansas can out bid almost anybody. We got two good transfers in Sears, who is from Muscle Shoals and wanted to come back home, and Welch, who, like Hodgson, is from Buffalo and knew Hodson for years. We are not just offering $850,000 NIL up from like, say, Miami did (very publicly) with last year's top transfer. We have to get lucky with good players who are willing to accept our NIL opportunities that come after they enroll. Also, our first priority is to spend our NIL money on current players to keep them here.

idk about that, their football program is complaining about not having much NIL money, hard to believe their Bball team has millions of dollars in NIL for transfers. I think they just had a lot of spots open and a lot of guys wanting to come there since they made back to back elite 8's and Muss is an elite recruiter, he contacts every good player that enters the portal.

Maybe it is true that they only went there for NIL, what do I know.

Either way, if we make a deep tourney run I don't think we will have any problem getting a few transfers to come here, Miller and Clowney are looking like they're both gonna be high draft picks and we play a fun style.

What good forward looking for a transfer spot wouldn't want to come here when we just had two forwards in Miller and Clowney get drafted in the top 20?

I really don't think either of those matter a ton to portal guys. Most of them at least. It's extremely important to high school recruits, but guys who have been in college for a few years are pretty unlikely to suddenly end up on the NBA's radar because they change schools. Most transfers are looking for NIL money and more PT.

Yeah I am sure some guys are mainly doing it for money, good college players with no real shot at the NBA. There are also plenty of transfers that are still trying to get to the NBA and view that as pretty important. Was Brazile seen as a potential lottery pick before he went to Arkansas and looked great this year before he got injured? I don't think he was, maybe I am wrong. He may not get drafted high since his injury but he was being mocked in the top 15 a lot before it.

We will have playing time available. An elite F would be pretty much guaranteed a starting spot.

Also I dont think we are as poor as far as bball NIL as some think, We did sign a top 3 class with 2 five stars in it last year. Maybe we are just saving the NIL money this year for portal guys, thats what I have been assuming.

After looking at the roster breakdown for next year:

Guard - Just need a ballhandler for the 2nd unit, similar to JQ's role this season. Bradley/Sears is starting and we don't have anyone else currently that can run the offense. Griffen is going to be fun to watch coming off the bench, dude is going to light it up next year.

Forward - This is going to be tough because we essentially need two starting-level contributors here. We can get away with Burnett starting at the 3 because of his wingspan. It'd be nice for one of the freshmen to take Gurley's minutes off the bench. I think Walters needs about a year to really contribute but the dude is a perfect fit for the system.

Center - Yep we're good, we have a roster spot left by my count. I guess bring in another big guy if Oats feels like we need some additional depth but would rather just bring in a third Forward.

I would not be surprised to see us sign a juco point guard or combo guard to back up Sears and Bradley. The open forward spots from Miller and Clowney leaving will be hard to fill. Walters and Dioubate are good, but I'm not sure they are Miller Clowney good, so no idea where we find players for those spots other than transfer portal, and I'm not sure we have the NIL to get the top forward transfers. This is a hard working staff with lots of sky miles, so I have no doubt they will turn every stone to find our three spots: a point/ combo and two good forwards.

It would be hard to keep one of them off the floor, But we could run Sears or Bradley as the second PG and start Burnett at SG. Just depends on the makeup of the team next year.

Though I do think we would likely be better with them together, Bradley at PG and Sears at SG.

I agree, I think will both be starters again next year.

We do have PG RJ Johnson signed but he may be in some legal trouble allegedly and has missed 9 games in a row for Grissom, so who knows what's gonna happen there. I didn't include him in the roster projection but he is still signed with us as of now.

If he doesn't end up playing for us I do think we try to get another PG from somewhere.

What did RJ Johnson do? Does Jack Doss coach at Grissom now? If he does and he has him sitting out games its pretty serious. Remember when he coached at Butler dudes were walking around with bad haircuts because they were getting in trouble.

We don't know yet, but the rumor is some sort of sex crime. If the rumors are true, he'll never step foot on campus.

Hmm. If he sitting out he really in trouble. Doss a good coach but he will let his players play through most situations.

There may be an ankle monitor involved. Nothing i've posted is confirmed as far as I know, but that is what's out there.

Walters can definitely shoot good enough but is only 180, Clowney is 205.

ETA: Actually some places list Walters at 190. If he is able to defend and rebound well enough he may get a lot of playing tme next year. He is a great shooter.

Not sure how reliable it is, but this ESPN article says Walters is 210.

His weight is all over the place depends on where he is listed, seen 180, 190, and now 210 gonna try to find his high school basketball roster and see what it says.

I saw him in person at one of our games and I’d say 190 just guessing from looking at him.

Well their roster lists him at 0 lbs so that wasn't any help.

ESPN lists him as 210 lbs ESPN

Rivals lists him at 190. Rivals

247 lists him at 180. 247
