I’m going to say this, and people aren’t going to like it.
Shack and JQ got an unfair shake last season. They were the only 2 players who even had a pulse when it came to creating your own shot last season. When we struggled, they got the blame. But, a ton was put on their shoulders. If they were mixed in with 2-3 other guys as skilled as them who could share the load and give them a little help, we would have been really good. But yes, 2 guys who can make plays while the other 11 can’t, not to mention they are undersized, that was asking a lot.

If they had played with consistent effort on defense, I'd agree.

I think Shackelford played as good of defense as his body and athleticism could provide. He was more physically limited than anything effort related.
I think two of the primary targets of this quote are still on the roster, both of which had inconsistent effort on that end.
