Not really a fan of it when apparently we “passed” on guys like Bridges and Akot…but I still like the roster we have

I like our roster. I like our coach. But holding onto a scholarship makes absolutely ZERO sense. Especially considering we're potentially already burning one on Quinerly. I thought Anthony Grant was making roster decisions for Dayton now...

Yep. We should at least be able to go get a guy like Bola who does one thing really well. Doesn't have to be a complete player, just one skill. Somebody with a pulse and a really good FT% is better than nothing.

I don’t mind it all really. I mean it’d obviously be nice to fill, but if we don’t see anyone good enough to fit that last spot or is a necessity to have, why just use it to use it?

At the very least, an extra body for scrimmages/practice. Or get creative and maybe take a flyer on a guy that’s more of a project but might could contribute next year.

Makes no sense. College sports are free agency. It’s easier than ever to run off a guy after one year if he doesn’t produce so there’s no risk to taking a flyer on a guy for the last spot.

Agree. There is no down side whatsoever. Makes me think we couldn’t find a warm body.

I do not understand.

Anyone is better than no one.

I don't want to waste it just to fill the spot but with our roster management luck the past few years, I think it would be a pretty big deal to have a full roster entering camp. Especially since we're already down 1 spot with JQ being out.

After almost everyone spent this whole past year of complaining about our roster make up, now we’re out here begging just to take someone for the hell of it.

Doesn’t work like that. It’s also ONE spot, ONE. This isn’t an every year thing to happen, and I trust Oats just a tad bit more than y’all.

I just don’t get pushing out a guy like Gary and turning down other transfers just to leave the spot open…but overall, leaving a spot open in any normal year isn’t a huge deal. Just with our injury luck and JQ already being out for awhile I just feel like it makes sense to fill it with someone, even if they suck.

Now that I understand, because I would have kept Gary (even if he couldn’t shoot). My biggest thing is, if almost everyone agrees the roster makeup was off this year, why would we want to fill it with ANYONE or just a warm body??

You don’t, or you end up in the same scenario as last year eventually

I agree with Trojan, if the reports of last year were true that we had issues with guys caring more about their own production over sacrificing for the team maybe this was a culture decision. We heard reports that Bridges, and Lucas’ visits didn’t go so well, maybe Oats didn’t necessarily want to take on a diva just to fill out the roster. Who knows, it’s all speculation, but it seems Oats has a very specific outlook on next year’s team.

Only concern I have is the injury curse and not having a body to fill it, so I definitely understand everyone’s pov. I just have faith in this staff, hopefully it doesn’t come back to bite me.

Walk on Delany Heard looked good last weekend in the team camp practice/ scrimmage playing with the older guys Miles, Burnett, Welch, Bediako because Pringle has not arrived and Bradley and JQ were on the sidelines. I would rather give him a scholarship than an unknown guy who would just sit on the bench. He knows what we are running if we need him to play. Plus, he went to Oak Hill, a really good prep school program, so he has some skills.
