41. Jarod Lucas | 6-3 guard | senior | Oregon State

Lucas is another tried and proven high-major floor-spacer, an absolute sniper from distance who was essentially one of the few bright spots in a disastrous Oregon State season. He averaged 13.5 points while shooting 39 percent from 3 on over six attempts per game and making 87 percent of his free throws. He’s the kind of player who makes life easier for everyone else that is out there. He’s also a pretty underrated flop artist nationally who isn’t afraid to put his body in there and take charges. He looked pretty frustrated by the end of his time in Corvallis, so this shouldn’t really come as a surprise to anyone. But any team looking for a legit shooter — and there are 100s of teams across the country looking for real shooters — should come calling. He’s from the southern California area, so it wouldn’t be a surprise to see him end up back on the West Coast.

I'd love to land Lucas and a 6'5 to 6'8 defender who shoots an even decent 3

- Keonte Kennedy (UTEP)
- Emmanuel Akot (Boise)
- Dexter Dennis (Wichita)
- Ricky Lindo Jr (GW)
- Landers Nolley (Memphis)
- DJ Jeffries (Miss St)

Should have just kept Gary at this rate.

I think we'd prefer a long wing who is more athletic than Gary. Gary was basically a shorter center.

I think based on who we've reached out to the last month we are looking for a long athletic 3/4 who can switch and guard 1-4.

Might be tough to pull Lucas off the West coast

Yeah Lucas really depends on who else is going after him and how hard. Personally I prefer Akot over Gary just because of his versatility and ability to guard 1-4

I’m highly skeptical we are actually recruiting the Missouri guy more than just a cursory hey and we’ll monitor you as we evaluate options.

What I was thinking too. I feel like I remember us lightly recruiting him early before he went to Mizzou, but I may be confusing him with someone else.

I like the way that sounds tbh. Lucas and Akot would be a great way to round out the roster imo.

He's not a system fit. He's an undersized 4 that can't hit a perimeter shot. He played admirably for us two years ago but, IMO, regressed last season. He does have a blue-collar attitude, which we all appreciated, but he wasn't going to stay if he wasn't going to get minutes.

I don't really understand the panic, we missed out on Bridges but within 24 hours we've already been linked to some new guys. One shooter and one more wing and this roster is ready to roll. We also don't even know which guys are going to be pulling out of the draft either, you kinda want to keep a spot open just in case there is a surprise.

Yeah, I think the issue with Gary was probably that the staff is expecting Bediako to make a big jump over the offseason and you really can't play he and Gary together. Factor in signing Pringle and there just weren't going to be any minutes available. Especially in light of the fact that Gary just can't shoot at all.

I can't speak for anyone else, but my concern over our portal strategy is that we're being a bit reactionary instead of casting a wide net. You make it a lot harder to sign guys who are in high demand when you don't get in on the ground floor. We don't seem to have that issue with prep recruiting at all, so I don't understand the portal contacts kind of trickling out 2-3 at a time.

IDK man that’s a very small starting lineup. One of him or Sears will be an off the bench 6th man scoring threat that can also distribute the ball. Think of Lou Will

Yea - either way, it's not like "starting" really matters much with us (or anybody these days).

Exactly, we’ll stagger our guards anyway not a platoon swap.

From appearances, it seems that way too. There are several guys over the past few weeks I thought we've should have at least tried to set up a visit. We very well may have reached out but it didn't go anywhere. Hard to know for sure. There are some guys that didn't have us on their list of contacts that we should have been on day one. Just my opinion.

So just to keep track you have Sears winning SEC player of the year next season and Lucas as a starter over Q, Gurley, Miles, Bradley and the other freshman if he transfers here?
