2022 four-star Rodney Rice has turned down an offer from the Overtime Elite league, he tells
@On3Recruits
.
I know he probably isnt gonna come here but posting because it seems like most of the prospects are turning down the G league/Overtime/ type offers now that NIL exists.

The NIL is a game changer. Especially, for the blue bloods. Oats and Bama have to start making a name for ourselves. We gotta keep Oats, which I believe he enjoys it down here, and a few more solid seasons and classes, and we might be on our way. Just need to keep upward trajectory

Yeah it is. Those who seem to be benefitting the most so far in college basketball are Oregon and Penny Hardaway, who both obviously have very strong Nike connections. I like the NIL better than the alternative though, I like seeing the best players actually play in college instead of going to the G league ect.

I thought the Gleague was going to steal a bunch of players. I also thought that it would lead them down a path to nowhere. That money is hard to turn down, but they just want results and not development. They’ll develop to a point, but after that, you’re screwed with no college connections

Idk about that. They've signed around seven or eight 5*'s (or would be) from the 21-23 classes already and are expected to land several more.

Didn't a 4 star get half a million the other day too

G-league makes a lot of sense. They're paying big money, and they get to develop with guys that were great college players. Better competition and full time training.
I could even see Australia being a great option, if not for covid.
Overtime Elite is the one I can't figure out. With nil, there's only so many elite recruits to go around.

I don't think it's going to be black or white either way. Some kids will want to do it for various reasons, other will want to play in college for various reasons.

Overtime Elite makes no sense to me at all, NIL or no NIL. If some 16-17 year old kid goes that route and it doesn't work out they have zero fallback options. None. They won't be eligible to go back to a normal high school, they won't be eligible for college basketball, and no pro team for adults is going to want them.

Yep and how it should be imo

If we need some harchet work inside, Rojas can deliver. He's like a "bull in a china shops" sometimes, but the coaches really seem to like his toughness.

It will be interesting to follow the Dashien Nix story. A top 2020 recruit who went G League but was not drafted. All you said happened. I did see he resigned with the G League, but...

He just got an exhibit 10 deal from the Rockets, so maybe he can earn a two way contract this year.

My question, and it's mostly a philosophical one, is how young is too young for it to be OK for these pseudo-agents and professional league representatives to offer money to a kid? Because that's really my main concern. Offering 6 figures to a 16 year old is incredibly coercive. And what is the plan for the guys who don't work out? Going back to school is only an option if they're giving up basketball. Going pro at 19 isn't a serious option if they struggled at 17 and 18. So are they just screwed and out on the street with a high school "diploma" that isn't worth the paper it's printed on and zero life or job skills?

They did in the 2021 class before NIL existed.
What 5 stars have they signed in the 22' or 23' class? I may have missed some.
ETA:
NVM I remember some now, Scoot Henderson, Mikey Williams ect. They will get their share, but more seem to be staying in college so far than in the '21 class, we will see how it plays out.
