quote:I would agree that it looks like UK is now in the driver's seat, but they also just offered Cason Wallace, another 5* shooting guard. I doubt they are able to pull each of Shaedon Sharpe, Cason Wallace, and Nick Smith with Skyy Clark already committed, but I guess it's possible. Not saying that puts us in great position since it looks like Wallace could be leaning Tennessee and Sharpe could still go the pro route, but we may still have a chance to snag one of Smith or Sharpe, with Smith presumably being the most likely.
Yep, based off the information last week, timeline not looking great for schools outside of UK.
Love me some Rodney Rice as well and would love to get him on board. I think the dream class would be Jaden Bradley, Nick Smith Jr. or Shaedon Sharpe, Rodney Rice, Brandon Miller, and Jarace Walker. That would be about as solid of a recruiting class as we could ever ask for and I think we truly have a realistic chance with all of these guys, with players like Brice Sensabaugh, JJ Starling, Chandler Jackson, Jazian Gortman, Eric Daily, Kimani Hamilton, Solomon Washington, and Rylen Griffen some other options if we can't close with any of the aforementioned guys.
We still probably retain one of Bediako or Tchikou, so the size of these guys would work very nicely with who we'd potentially bring back in 2022. My best guess would be Burnett, Gary, Holt, Bediako, and KAH or Miles (I think one will transfer). That leaves room to bring in 3 transfers, which sounds about right with how the future of college basketball is going.

Obviously we'd all love to get a class full of top 30 5* players, but on the other hand I think a system like ours is one where you need to get old and stay old for best results.
You just need a blend of both. You need guys like Miles/KAH/Holt that have a lot of talent but need a couple years to really develop. You blend experience with top 30 recruits and you're going to be competing every year. If we can grab Walker/Bradley/Miller and finish up with long term guys that's going to be a hell of a class.

The challenge in the portal/waiver era is going to be keeping them around long enough to develop. That's the trouble with blending the developmental guys and the soon to be lottery picks. The more you get of the latter the longer the former have to sit on the bench before they get a lot of playing time. This season I think we will have a good blend of young talent and veteran experience. Keeping that balance next year is probably going to require Oats to do a good job recruiting some guys away from the portal though.
I do agree with you though that the recipe for success in terms of high school recruiting is taking 1-2 elite kids and rounding out the class with guys in the 50-100 range who are really talented but will likely be 3-4 year college players. It's keeping them around for 3-4 years that will be the hard part.

As of right now I think they will for sure have two spots open, I'd imagine that they will have at least another 2-4 players leave early or transfer out after next year.
They are all similar players though so maybe UK only wants to take 2 more of those 3 and they are all talented so it would probably come down to w/e would commit first

Season ticket renewals are about to come out. Excerpts from the email from Greg Byrne:
quote:
Reflecting back on 2020-21, one of the shining stars last year was the success we had in men’s basketball under head coach Nate Oats. He and his staff have made an immediate impact on our program, advancing to the NCAA Sweet 16 and winning both the Southeastern Conference Regular-Season and Tournament Championships in his second season at the helm. The energy and excitement around the team is infectious, and we are thrilled that more of you will be able to be in the stands to experience the tremendous game-day atmosphere that this team brings.
Later this week, you will be receiving an email from our ticket office with renewal information relative to your men’s basketball season tickets. The pricing has increased some, which we had not done since the 2015-16 season, however costs still remain in the middle third of men’s basketball pricing among SEC schools.

I have to wait until early September to see what's leftover apparently. Not a surprise to see a price increase, just means big things are coming for the program. Hopefully.

That’s how it’ll be for me as well. I doubt the inventory will be sold out before then, but that would really suck.

Nice - that's cool. I guess they'll play at the BJCC?

Yep, which could impact us in a way if we are still going to move forward with the renovation of Coleman instead of building a brand new arena on a new site.

Good luck to “among others.” This one will be over before September
Slater used a crystal ball emoji, which would seem to indicate UK as expected. Slater did also use a Canadian flag emoji if you want to hope that means Alabama.
