Couple of things: Mark Few would absolutely listen to a deal like that. Oats makes more money than him right now.
Few (an Oregon alum whom Nike could not get for some reason) would consider b/c his heir apparent is already on staff and ready to take over (Tommy Loyd). If Few wins the NC, then he can leave on good terms while cashing in assuming UNC offers the big payday ala UK with Calipari.
UNC is run by a woke administration. That's something folks are overlooking and but need to realize. Chapel Hill is super left/progressive so the idea of UNC just slinging around $$$$ for the best coach on the market is kinda ridiculous. Alot of these oldhead analysts talk up the UNC gig but they overlook that UNC administration is all about diversity. Look for Hubert to get this job.

"You people", you don't think AAs are the woke ones here? Nah, that isht is mainstream in academia, corporation, etc.
I'm AA myself (spent part of my childhood in Elyton Projects) but I'm also self-educated like Malcolm X so I don't buy the nonsense our elites are peddling lately. Stay lost bro and be surprised when society collapses overnight.

Bill Self just signed a lifetime contract with KU. Guess we won't have to worry about Kansas and Oats.
Sweet lord these ADs are dumb.

"Seems like some folks don't really follow college sports. Wisconsin has not and will never ever spend big money like that. If Gard is ousted (laughable), another person in that coaching tree will take over. A great deal of high schools in that state run the same offense that Wisconsin runs, which is smart b/c while they will lose the occasional five start, they will have their choice of kids that they know can play in their offense. Same deal with football."
That's cute.
I played college ball and have coached for 18 years. I know a few things about college sports.
Ryan was hired from Wisconsin-Milwaukee not from Dick Bennett or Soderberg's coaching staff. Gard was hired from Bo Ryan's coaching staff due to the success of Ryan after 15 years there. The same wouldn't apply if they let Gard go. Since Ryan's players left, Gard has gone 77-52 and hasn't made it past the round of 32. Gard is making 2.25 million. Oats is making 3.225 million.
For reference, Roy Williams is/was making 3.9 and Tom Izzo 4.4. They've been there forever with as much success as anyone and aren't making anywhere near Calipari or Coach K money. Pearl is at 3.8. Musselman at 2.5 and Barnes at 4.95. UNC and Mich St aren't throwing out as much money as people think. UNC will most likely go with someone with UNC ties, probably Stack or Davis. Mich St will probably go with Fife or Stephens when Izzo leaves.
I do agree that Bama would want to give Oats a raise next season if he has one like this one. As far as the buyout goes, the better Oats does, the more leverage he has to keep the buyout lower. He doesn't have to agree to the increased buyout.
My point is that sometimes a guy just wants to go home.

Texas just hired Beard. And on paper, that's a home run hire. He's had sustained success at a major program in a shithole city, and he's and a Texas guy. This time, they did a good job and didn't take a mid major gamble.

I don't understand the purpose of a lifetime contract for a guy at a program like Kentucky or Kansas. Cal already tried and failed in the NBA, and if there was any mutual interest between Self and the NBA it would have happened years ago. There are no college jobs that are upgrades. Roy left Kansas for UNC but that was a pretty unique situation with him being a North Carolina native and UNC alum. So who is going to swoop in and hire them away?

The life time contract is ignorant for Self but they will have an out after the possible sanctions are announced.

Oats hasn't be in Wisconsin over almost twenty years. If he want to go home, he would've jumped on that Marquette job. My point about Wisky not slinging big cash around still stands, unless you want to dispute that.

Beard can also become their Billie Gillispie. UT dropped a HUGE amount on that arena, hope they're ready for his style of bball.

In a vacuum Alabama is a better job than Marquette. Without extenuating circumstances or the desire to coach at a school exclusively dedicated to bball, you don't leave Alabama for Marquette.
Wisconsin job should open up in 2-3 years which would be a bigger threat if you think he wants back to WI. That's a top tier program with incredible fan support but not as much financial investment in sports. Alvarez's AD always believed they could win without spending $.
Even still.... if Oats continue to win like he is at Alabama, I still don't see why he'd leave for Wisconsin. He'd have to really want to get back to WI

It would also be a major change in that bball culture. He would have to overturn that whole roster.

I didn't say he WOULD go to Wisconsin and certainly not in the next year or two. My point was that I think he would go there over Michigan State. Michigan State is not paying Calipari or Coach K money. The difference between Michigan State money and Wisconsin money if they both wanted Oats would be negligible; and if he had his choice between the two with one being home, I think he would choose Wisconsin.
Same conference. Both have a winning tradition and strong fan base.

Well we can’t even really complain tbh. Herb couldn’t even stay on the floor bc he was always in foul trouble towards the end of the season.
Posted on 4/2/21 at 1:55 pm to Bamafan18
Mostly because we tried to run the offense through him.

At least Davion was a deserving candidate. He was on par with Herb defensively.
I have more of a problem with Oats only tying for 3rd for coach of the year.

He should have won it honestly. Michigan was a decent team before Howard got there. Alabama has been in bad shape for a long time!
