They are losing Flowers apparently.

The transfer portal has told me that South Alabama’s Michael Flowers has entered it.
The 6-foot-1 senior averaged 21 points this past season.

The irony is that it's probably going to prompt the NCAA to not make blanket waivers a permanent thing, so all these dudes inexplicably leaving D1 programs where they're starting are likely fricking over future players.

It’s been two days since East Carolina forward Jayden Gardner announced his intentions to enter the transfer portal and leave Joe Dooley’s program.
Since? His phone has been going off non-stop.
The 6-foot-7 forward started in 79 of 81 career games which are very impressive numbers for the 20-year-old. In addition, he’s coming off a season where he averaged over 18.3 points and over eight rebounds per contest.
Gardner is an old-school post-man that shoots the ball over 50% from the field over his three seasons for the Pirates. Schools have a major interest in his efficiency and his ability to grab rebounds, as he has averaged an impressive 8.5 rebounds over his three years.
Why is he being so heavily recruited?
He’s got two years left and has obviously proven his worth and consistency over the last three seasons. So who all has reached out? Gardner answered those hard-hitting questions for Stockrisers.com.
Which programs have reached out?
“Arkansas, Virginia Tech, Pittsburgh, Ole Miss, Tennessee, Miami, Virginia, NC State, Oklahoma State, Texas A&M, Florida, Alabama, Boston College, Vanderbilt, Notre Dame, Georgia Tech, and Xavier.”
How did your virtual meeting with NC State’s staff go, what is the pitch?
“They’ve got a great coach who is also a great man. Local hometown team, great environment and situation to be in playing in ACC in front of my family.”
How about the one you had with Oklahoma State? Thoughts?
“Another Great coach who has fire and compassion and loves his players and works hard and I’d be in a situation where the Big 12 is gonna be a war every night.”
You also just talked with Virginia’s Tony Bennett, how was that?
“They have a prestigious coach who will go down in the hall of fame and that I can learn from and help me get to where I want to get to because of the success he’s had of getting guys to the pros, and opportunity to test my skills in the ACC.”
What will you bring to one of these schools?
“I will bring heart hustle spirit leader and winning mentality I’m a team-first guy and will do anything to help my team win.”
When are you trying to commit?
“Within the next three weeks, I hope to have a decision.”

With Tchikou, Wilson and maybe Bediako playing next year, I doubt Gary will have to play undersized big.

My feelings on Gary:
1. He has guaranteed minutes on a contender next year and has a good chance of being a starter, at least to start the season.
2. He needs to put in some serious work on his outside shot. If he can develop and become at least a respectable shooter from outside, he can be among the team leaders in mpg with the ability to play 3-5, guard and switch on multiple positions and rebound the basketball.

Gary just needs to get in the gym and work on his shot. His defense will only get better and there's always a place and minutes for someone that plays as hard and effectively as he does.

Not sure of all the criteria for the hard hat award but not sure how he didn’t win it anytime he saw significant minutes . Not taking anything away from Herb bc he played hard too but Gary plays balls to the wall

That's kinda surprising. I figured he had another 3-5 years left in the tank. Obviously not. The last couple of years must have really gotten to him. It definitely explains the rumored mass exodus at UNC though.

There's an UNC alum right down the street that's done reasonably well at his program.

Yea I know Wes Miller will be the quick reaction but.....are they really ready to hand the keys over to a midmajor guy who has been to 2 NCAAT out of 10 years and never won a game?
UNCG has never been better than #82 in KenPom. Not saying he'd be bad, just saying his profile is just "solid mid major coach who also happens to be UNC alum".

Agreed. Add a respectable 3pt shot to the February and March 2021 version of Gary and you have an incredibly well rounded basketball player. I don't know what kind of handle he has, but even if it's pretty terrible a dude who can defend the post and perimeter, crash the boards, make good outlet passes, clean up misses, AND hit enough 3s to pull opposing bigs outside the paint is still a fantastic player.
