Honestly this doesn't seem like a great list. Is the list based on pro success? Pro potential? There are others who were better in college than some listed here imo.

King should be #1.
All time leading scorer, SEC player of the year in hoops 2 years, player of the year in all sports one year, all sec three years, all american 2 years.
That's not really close.

Agree on King. He was the best player at Bama I think.
Jerry Harper, McKey, Buck Johnson, Leon Douglas.... just some I thought might be on the list.

Agreed. A list should have some context and rationale, although in this case it's fairly clear (although unsaid) that "who had the best NBA career" was the most important criteria.
Sprewell had one really good year. Horry was good, but not clearly the best Alabama player of my lifetime.
(Although his stats were a bit better than I remember - 15, 8 boards, and 3.5 (!) blocks a game as a senior).
Even though I don't really remember him, it seems a bit strange that there wasn't even a passing mention of Derrick McKey.
And this:
quote:
At 6-foot-9, McDyess was widely regarded as the best big man of the SEC during his two seasons with the Crimson Tide from 1993-1995.
struck me as kind of random and probably not true at all
For one, Arkansas had Corliss Williamson for both of those years. Mississippi State had Erick Dampier.
Although that's sort of irrelevant, and McDyess was a monster by the end of his sophomore year.

Forgot about Harper, good call.

I’m going to say something that won’t be popular but does anyone else feel like we’re trying to run before we learn how to walk?
I’m all for 2 or 3 non-con marquee names on the schedule but we are one good year and a Covid interrupted one removed from being a middling program struggling to improve. I don’t think it’s the wisest move to line up a murderers row in the early season and take a bunch of L’s into conference play. One or two quality losses help more than they hurt but 4 or 5 and people start questioning your ranking and your tournament worthiness. As we have seen, guys need time to adjust and gel in Nates system before we start hitting on all cylinders. Remember last November when we looked like arse in the early season? Everyone was ready to throw in the towel at that point. Hard is good, insane is…well it’s insane and we are approaching insanity.
Look, I hope Oats and the guys make me look like an idiot for posting this and I have to eat my words. But I can think of multiple reasons to not schedule such a gauntlet and not that much upside to it. Early season wins and losses don’t buy you wins in the Dance and the SEC is tough enough. I hope this doesn’t come back to bite us in the arse.

I didn't throw in the towel b/c I knew basketball is a marathon not a race. I love challenging schedules so did folks like Denny Crum.

bad losses haunt you more than losing to top 40 teams but I see your point.

I think we just need to start frickin winning some of these.
This sort of schedule is only an issue when you literally lose every single game against a good team (as we've done recently) - not to mention when you combine that with 1-2 losses to teams you should beat (Western Kentucky).
If we finish the OOC 10-3 with losses to Gonzaga, Baylor and Kansas and we beat Houston, Memphis and everyone else then that's a solid OOC season.

So what does Baylor got returning? Should they still be good?

Yes, they'll be good. They are good every year at this point.
- James Akinjo transferred from Arizona, big time player
- Flager, Mayer and Tchatchoua are back
- 5-star one and done Kendall Brown (#11 overall)
- 4-star Langston Love (#38 overall)

ESPN draft projection has him going 35th to the Pelicans.
Herb 49th to the Nets. No Petty or Shack.
Thanks. I don't have ESPN+, so I was curious what they said.
Bleacher Report has Primo at 35, Herb at 44. Nobody else was mentioned, as expected.

Rookie wire getting USA today had Herb at 35, Primo at 50

The good news is I would think that if Primo is told he's going to probably be an early 2nd round pick (which is where most drafts have him), I'm not sure he is going to stick around for that. The difference between being a 1st and 2nd round pick in the NBA is MASSIVE. If he's pretty sure he's going to be a 2nd round pick I'd be shocked if he stayed in the draft.
The biggest threat is a team drafting low makes it clear to him that he is their guy and they're going to take him at #27 or #29 or something.

It's a deep draft. There's some really good, young, established players going in the 20s. Some years, he's probably be a 1st because of his potential. I'm thinking this isn't one of those drafts. But really, nothing is set at all until after the combine. Then, you'll start to get reports and a better idea of what to expect.

the good news is we could lose 10 or so games and still be a 2 seed as long as we win just a couple of the really tough ones. thats how it works for the big 10 atleast.
