Would be a pretty great string of PG’s heading through Tuscaloosa if we somehow landed him. Fingers crossed

It'll be a position of need after next season with immediate playing time all but guaranteed, so I'd imagine we have a decent shot with a lot of top 2022 PGs.

If we lose JD and JQ after this year it wouldnt be a bad idea to bring in a good transfer PG with some experience.
Would be great to sign a good PG out of HS in this class too.

I’m really intrigued how Nate rebuilds the roster for 2022-2023.
Will have some nice core pieces like Miles, Ambrose, Bediako, and hopefully Tchikou.

I think you have to operate that this is pretty much a given

That’s a pretty good base between Shack, Gary, Burnett, Miles, Ambrose, Bediako, and Tchikou.

It has been brought up in this thread before, but I don't think you can assume any of those guys will still be here for the 2022-2023 season. Every player with remaining eligibility will have to be "re-recruited" to some extent every year from now on.

i'm wondering if it would be more beneficial, program wise, to recruit a slightly lower ranked player who will likely stay 2-3 and maybe 4 years. rather than chasing the one and dones, every year.

I think what you'll see, is top coaches will recruitb the highly elite players, and then start recruiting through the portal to fill out the roster. Allowing guys to develop and get playing time on a level higher than hs, could be very beneficial to top programs. No need to waste time and effort on a project, who might later transfer themselves. And if someone's played great in D1 ball, you have a much better idea of who they are, vs only scouting against hs level talent.
Mid majors are going to really hate the new transfer rule.
Now one thing that'll eventually be a good change, is with the G League and other pro options, the one and dones are more likely to skip college altogether. That's going to hurt guys like Calipari, who's success is thought to be based strictly on talent advantage, instead of his own coaching talent.
But to answer your question. No. Get the best players possible, if they fit into your system/philosophy. Because even if there are chemistry issues early on, by tournament time, they should be worked out. And that's what matters in the end.

You just have to find a good balance. Obviously, it's hard to go the Calipari way now with the new rule changes but you can't just settle for the 4-star players while the Sexton's and Davison's of the world show out somewhere else.
This off-season has shown Oats can handle roster management. We have a great blend of vets, rising role players, and stars. He addressed needs while not sacrificing too much for the future (I was never that high on Wilson so other opinions could be different).

Alabama appearing as a preseason top-10 team months after winning the SEC title? Basketball school! Nate Oats has things rolling in Tuscaloosa right now, and this spring reflected that momentum. The Crimson Tide landed two impact transfers in Nimari Burnett, a former five-star prospect who left Texas Tech in the middle of the season, and Noah Gurley, a second-team all-conference player at Furman. They also added a high-ceiling piece down low in Charles Bediako, a top-35 recruit. Four players who started at least nine games are gone, while Jaden Shackelford and Joshua Primo are testing the NBA draft waters. Primo has more NBA buzz at this point, as he was the youngest player in college basketball last season and is ranked in the top 40 at ESPN. Regardless, Nate Oats will have a terrific offensive backcourt in Jahvon Quinerly and five-star recruit J.D. Davison. Davison is going to be one of the most explosive players in the country next season and will thrive in Alabama's up-tempo system.
Projected starting lineup:
Jahvon Quinerly (12.9 PPG, 3.2 APG)
J.D. Davison (No. 13 in ESPN 100)
Jaden Shackelford (14.0 PPG)
Joshua Primo (8.1 PPG)
Charles Bediako (No. 33 in ESPN 100)

Kind of shocking. He has been underwhelming at UF, even with an Elite 8 appearance.

that is an interesting question and what a great problem to even have! just dawned on me this must be how blueblood fans always feel....spoiled turds i swear. im not a fan of rebuilding when you dont have to so to me its usually not a debate as long as you got the system/coach to make things work, which we obviously do.
that said, where i do see how this could suck at times is to on occasion be one of those teams that loses say a talented breakout senior type to make room for a one and done type that may or may not pan out. i do think oats is savvy enough to see when to preserve that balance (as a poster earlier noted) so we dont ever end up losing guys we really shouldnt. atleast i hope because that recruiting train better not stop anytime soon....bluebloods who?
