Don't spend another dime on Coleman but have a plan in place for a complete demo and rebuild. Sometime in the next 4-5 years, this building boom is going to come crashing down and if we're ready with a plan and our checkbook in hand, we can take advantage and build a state of the art facility. frick that airplane hangar and a new paint job.

its been a disaster, especially in the minority schools.
They are going to have summer education in the Bham schools to try to catch the kids up. Most kids wont study (or work) unless there is an adult supervision and enforcement.

Yes I teach at a minority school but it has not been effective across our whole district . We too, are offering free summer school to help kids catch up and we had mostly in person learning after the first nine weeks of hybrid schedule . A lot of the ones who went virtual ended up coming back second semester bc they were so far behind . Most thought it was going to be like the end of the year last year where they weren’t accountable

State tests didn’t count this year so that is a two year break. Going to be tough next year to get them in the right mindset

You somehow assume that computer learning is automatically less valuable than the education that can be gained at "Public School X" in any number of inner city, suburban, or rural areas. I would never say that it's a good model, because I don't think it is. But there are hundreds of thousands of unqualified or disinterested teachers across the country collecting a check while doing very little educating. These kids going to the prep schools by and large aren't coming from affluent suburbs with excellent schools.

To each his own, I learned a great deal from my toy computer as a kid. With online education, you don't have to worry about getting drugs pushed on your kid, school shootings, incessant bullying, etc.

I went to public school (from the suburbs to the local school near the projects, in the west indies, etc.) and quite frankly people overrate that isht. If a kid wants an education they'll seek one.

Kids like that should be in apprenticeships not wasting their time with public education. By the time they turn 18 they can find gainful employment and I'm not talking the local McDs or army opportunity.

Some public schools being shitty doesn't justify tolerating the existence of diploma mills, much less a diploma mill that lures in children with signing bonuses.

I don’t want to derail this thread any further but I agree that a lot of kids have little to no interest in school and especially going to college but unfortunately the federal government wants all kids taught on a college prep track and it just doesn’t work for all . We have a great state of the art career tech center that offers several vocational courses in our district that kids can take advantage of.

Per an NBA memo via @wojespn

The NBA is forbidding teams from attending agent pro days — unless the pro days are conducted as part of Combine.

That's good to hear. I would also emphasize entrepreneurship as something that needs to be stressed more in education.

The kids need to have the value of the education instilled into them at an early age. Poor parenting will almost always produce poor results in the kids. And you also cant hold teachers responsible for rogue kids they have to teach.
Not sure if they are still doing it, but Hoover was separating the problem kids. Had them over at Berry until they sold that school building to Vestavia. That has to be expensive, though.

I wonder if that will take Yale or South Alabama off the schedule and/or what it means for Huntsville.

Releasing my official "Post Transfer Portal Top 25" later today, but all I'll say is this: Both Alabama and Gonzaga are in my preseason Top 10 to start next season.
