But to win a title, you need to have size. When we've had long backcourts and wings, we've had top 5 defenses.
100%, which seems to contradict your passioned defense of Holloway. Unless you think we just aren’t capable of acquiring the body types it takes to compete for a title due to our limitations as a program (note: I think we improved the perimeter defense this year to the point where I’m not sure Holloway should play much against title contenders).
I’d be curious how often the NC winning team has a player with his similar size and defensive limitations in their top 7 rotation. I’m sure it’s happened, but I’ve probably watched all of the last 20ish NCs and nothing comes immediately to mind.

I thought this past year really showed the most separation between Elite teams and everybody else that I can ever remember. I will argue forever that Bama was part of that elite group of 5-6 teams, but against the top 3 there were match up problems that required a lot of things to go right in order to win.
Florida, Auburn and Duke could all go super long at every position on the court whenever they wanted to and it just required you to play almost perfect against them to not eventually meltdown. Can you be still be elite with undersized guards against these freakish teams? I would say probably not. Ziegler for UT has won every defensive award I can think of and is scrappy as hell. But does he affect entry passes just by putting his arms up, no. That seemed to be what I noticed the most when we struggled. It wasn't pressing defense, it was the fact that the absolute elite teams could simply guard us by just existing. We were bottled up 5 feet behind the perimeter just to create space to pass the ball

If you go to 3 or 5-6 deep, then I agree. However, UConn was virtually untouchable in the postseason for 2 years straight prior to last year, and they had the same type of lineup with elite size and elite defense.
Note: it was awesome to be in Phoenix to watch us give them one of the biggest scares they had in that 2 year run. Being up on them with 12 min to go and hearing the Bama section going nuts was a memory my son and I talk about frequently, despite eventually caving to their pressure.

Even Grant played great against Clingman. About as well as anyone could against that monster.

His highlight dunk in that game is the stuff of legends. He’ll be showing his grandkids that on YouTube some day for sure.

Shabazz Napier and Kemba Walker immediately comes to mind because of how good they were, but high-minute guys like Remy Martin, Quinn Cook, Tyus Jones, Ryan Boatright, Kyle Guy and Joel Berry all are on rosters of the last 10 National Champions. To your point, it's hard to overcome playing smaller guys if they aren't great on the other end. If Aden is average offensively next season, then he probably doesn't need to be playing much. But elite offensive players at this level are still very valuable regardless of defensive limitations.

Give all the NIL money to Nate. He could actually win us a National Title if we gave him the $$$ to get the right players……Unlike Kalen

Seriously. I know we've gotten mildly serious about basketball, but if we truly went all in financially like UK, UF, and Arky have in BBall, we'd have a championship within 5 years. I firmly believe in Nate Oats. He is a top 5 coach in this sport.
