Primo as well, he was exceptionally long and a physical defender. It's amazing how much better college defenses are when passing lanes can be defended with just long perimeter defenders and you don't get compromised by easy entry passes to cutters or post players on every possession.
right, that team was by all accounts undersized and had no high level rim protector but made up for it with our length and elite level rotations to help and recover. those lineups with keon, herb, primo, and petty all locking in as a team was truly a thing of beauty. obviously not fair to expect another herb to show up but this current squad as a whole could do something similar and perhaps the added size and length downlow could make up for it.

Team Defense is what needs to improve dramatically. When you have good to great TEAM DEFENSE it can mask/outweigh a players individual defense.
Like someone mentioned...
Herb Jones
John Petty
Keon Ellis
Juwan Gary
Were all crazy defensive players... they also played on the same team. They had the best defensive team under Coach Oats in my opinion!
Can anybody name a guy on last seasons team that mimic what these guys can do defensively?

Grant and MoD were pretty solid defensively. But they didn’t have a lot of help.

If Philon is trying to help his stock, not sure how he’ll do that by not playing.

Agree. Either he is hurt, or he is getting bad advice from his agent. I would think the NBA teams would want to see up close a borderline 1st/ 2nd round player actually play,

Maybe he's already getting lukewarm feedback and thinking about pulling out? Let's crank up the hopium, boys and girls.

Wonder what the hold up is with Keonte Jones announcement

I think it's actually smart.
Philon has enough film out there. All he needs to do is perform well in a private workout with teams who are interested in him.

CBS just mocked LP #28 to the Celtics.
Sucks for our team next year and JD Davidson

There's likely to be signifiant interest from smart teams late in the first round and early in the second round in a young talent like Philon, who flashed major potential in spurts at Alabama as a true freshman. He's an exciting on-ball defender with burst and ball skills to grow into a starting guard. That's hard to find this late in the draft, even if he isn't ready to do so as a rookie.

quote:I think it's more that the pool of guys in the combine scrimmages are largely older dudes. Philon's draft outlook is based on upside, so it would probably be hard to stand out against dudes 3-4 years older than him with more polished games.

Random cameo in Bball thread.
Up in New England local sports believe Celtics are pretty high on JD, he just signed a two way deal, G league MVP, gets good reviews for his play. Things can change quickly but I think he is good with the Cs for a little while and if he isn't I think some one will grab him up quick and get a steal. Even if they took JP dont think it would impact JD.

Mark Sears just put on a shooting exhibition here at the Combine. Shot 26-for-30 on off-dribble mid-range pull-ups (tied for first); 21-for-25 on spot-up 3s (first); 16-for-25 in the 3-point star drill (tied for 11th); 25-for-27 in the side-mid-side 3-point drill (first).
