In this hypothetical, wouldn’t you want to see who else we still bring in to fill our scholarships before any expectations get adjusted? Maybe I’m naive but if spots come open, I don’t see Murphy and Oats bringing in subpar talent.

He's listed at 205 lbs in some places. I assume 195 is old news.

195 is from ESPN, it’s probably old and I sure as hell hope you’re right because 195 isn’t workable as a post defender at that height.

Well Rob Wright and Xaivian Lee are off the board for us. Wright committed to BYU and Lee narrowed his choices down to Florida, Duke, and St. John's.

If the numbers they’re talking about are true I’m glad we didn’t get him, there’s no way he’s worth it at that price.

I agree with that. I was just noting that the quality options to bring in to run point for us are dwindling.

I think Philon and to a lesser degree Reid were the elite talent already with experience. The pickings for portal additions getting thinner at this juncture. We aren’t finding a Philon replacement imo.

I could see him test the NBA waters but can’t see why Philon would portal

May have missed our chance with Lee due to Philon not already declaring. Lee will go somewhere else then Philon will announce he's leaving and we may be stuck without good options. Not good.

This is my fear and why I argued that in a "I shop" era then "we shop" is the only way to behave. If you need to consider your options, you need to do it on our timeline or its time to consider you gone.
I'm not paid to GM a college basketball team but that's how I'd be running it if I were.

I could be wrong, but with the number of transfers that have 2 years left and the fact that several of them had somewhat down years compared to expectations last year (including Rylan), it seems we may be building for 2026-2027 season peak. I don’t think we’ll fall off a cliff next year, but could see this team as a 4-6 seed in NCAAT where we just hope to get hot and make a run to the F4.
If guys show decent development and most return for 2026-2027, we’d have a shot at bringing in a couple ready to go upperclassmen and make a run at a championship. We’d lose Trelly and Mallette, but I think most everyone else could return.
I’ll also say that I’m glad Rylan may return. He hustled more than almost anyone on the team when on the floor, was an instinctive rebounder as a guard, a plus defender, and a confident shooter (I’m not worried about his % last year, he’ll be fine once he gets open corner 3s). He can turn it over if he tries to do too much, but hopefully he can grow out of that over the next 2 years. He’s a bit uncoordinated like Jarin, but he has an alpha mentality that we desperately need.

That's fine for guys considering the portal. It's different for a guy like Philon. It's not his timeline that's the problem it's the NBA's timeline. There's not a good answer because of the huge gap between the draft combine and the end of the season.

Just my opinion, I don't think combines change your stock in basketball like it does in football. If you don't know if you should go into the draft in April, the answer is you don't. So you need to decide where you're going to play college in the next basketball season.
We could afford to play this game with Sears because he never was a genuine NBA prospect last year and he's probably a 2nd rounder this year. We all knew he was just getting feedback and he'd be back next year. These NBA teams will be gassing Philon's arse up because they all love getting talent into the pool that they can steal for less than what they're worth fully developed.

I think Darling could be a good one for Bama.
He reminds me a lot Sean Pedulla

Saw where Acaden Lewis, rated the No. 5 point guard in the class of 2025, decommited from Kentucky.
Also, was listening to a sports show the other day about NIL in college basketball….they said Elite point guards are making 2.5 to 3 million. Blows my mind!!

The exception that proves the rule.
But yeah, it happens in the NBA but not like it does in the NFL where it is pretty common for there to be a handful of people who shoot up the boards solely off shorts and shirt performance.

from what Kentucky fans have said. I am not sure we want this kid. Whole lotta drama. He's leaving because he was insistent on starting, and then they recruited a PG over him.
His dad is also about to be sentenced for major financial crimes.

I don't know anything about the kid. I just thought it was interesting because Bol Bowen retweeted it. I also wouldn't take at face value anything the fanbase he just spurned says.
