Has it really been a circus though? His dad comes across like a bit of a shady character to me, but the kind of shite I'd expect a guy like that to pull (making demands about playing time, usage, scheme, etc.) are unlikely be a big deal during the one year he's here. The fact that they're even considering playing for the academic front of one of the biggest cults on the planet suggests to me that this is purely an NIL play and it'll be BYU though.

No one knows. Even Branham said his crystal ball was just a guess because they offered the most NIL and he has to have one in for the #1 recruit

Well, considering their family negotiated an ownership stake in the school he currently attends (Utah Prep) for him to transfer there, I'd say it's a bit of a circus.

I think the sudden rumblings about Alabama followed by setting an announcement date was a play to squeeze some more money out of BYU, but I hope I'm wrong.

It’s over. Mac said he won’t be watching First Take today.

Sad. Pre NIL we would have landed this kid

BYU's payroll next season will be eclipsed only by NBA squads.

At the EOTD it’s a barely over $1M offer vs a close to $5M offer

Complete honesty,
I would rather save the NIL for 3 proven grad transfers over 1 spectacular freshman. Of course AJ is going to be great, but Alabama is going to need GUYS next year. I asked before the season who was the last freshman wonderkid to carry a team to a final four or better and the overwhelming response was Carmelo Anthony. Anthony Davis is in the conversation, but he had 4 other first round draft picks surrounding him and he rarely had to carry that UK team on his shoulders.

I personally think chasing and overspending on youth in the NIL era is a bit dangerous. Look around the SEC as evidence that everyone went to the portal and paid for proven talent with experience.

Y'all need to stop believing everything you see on the internet. I know most of you are younger than I am and should know better.

i don’t think used bama to drive up price but it’s always been just about the $$.. IMO

Only thing is, if it was always about the money, why would his dad move up the announcement date and start traveling to attend our games? Only thing that makes sense is to make BYU sweat. If the deal was in place, why not just commit?

If he is the best player since Lebron James which i saw someone say he is well worth 10 million for what he could possibly do for a program like ours. We would recoup that quickly imo.

Pretty sure we do not have 10 million dollars to spend on basketball NIL. Could be wrong but I kinda doubt our NIL chest for hoops is capable of shelling that out.

If we’ve got ten million lying around to hand out to student athletes, they better be 6’4” 290 and be able to shoot the A gap, not the 3 ball

This is a kick in the nuts, but I trust oats to continue to find guys that fit his system.

I’ll be shocked if Dybantsa is a better college player than Brandon Miller and we didn’t win it all with him.

The biggest tragedy here is how much of a PR boost this gives the LDS church, which is literally just a socially acceptable form of Scientology.

If somebody ends up committing to a life inside the LDS church because of exposure generated from a basketball recruit, they were probably destined to join a cult anyway.

So how do they work around the 2 year mission thing? Isn't that required for all students?
