Recruiting update from an insider that is very connected outside of Bama. This was his answer to me from last Wednesday.
--

I know Thomas is going to Arkansas or at least that's what their staff has been told ...

AJ is going to BYU this weekend I think ? It's Bama or BYU and has been for a while ...

Burries ... I think he winds up being a guy who could hold out till spring ... UK is in there for him ... USC ... Arizona ... If AJ goes to BYU ... I could see them getting Burries as well ... I think he stays west coast, just put vibe on that one though ... No rock solid info ...

On Holt ... I will be shocked if it's not Bama or Auburn in the end .

Looks like the Purdue game is only streaming on Peacock. Guess i need to dust off my old pirate apps, and install some updates. It's a Friday night game that should be in regular NBC. No way I'm signing up just for one game, even if they offer a free trial.
Decided to road trip that one with my dad and brother.

I asked Pannone about what makes Hurley so good a couple months ago. He said that he's very solid both offensively and defensively (said a lot of the better coaches only have a specialty to one or the other). Then, he said that he's also a psychopath. That gives him an edge.

Comes from a basketball family.

Probably knew more about basketball at 13, than most people do.

Did he mean this literally or figuratively? Because I can see both. Hurley is the exact same kind of a-hole as Coach K.

Yep. They're not all the same, but they usually are assholes. Like Nate is an a-hole kind of in the same way Spurrier was. He's going to talk some shite, he can be a smart arse, but he backs it up.

Hopefully if Nate ever leaves for the NBA he will be hired. I think he is a hell of a coach and recruiter.

One thing I really like about Oats is that he doesn't use coach speak. He "tells it like it is", but not like a regular a-hole does. He will say, "x isn't good enough on defense". He's not super polished but it's endearing. He's the opposite of DeBoer in that way (and in a lot of other meaningful ways).

Yeah, it's a very narrow path to walk between publicly critiquing a player and throwing him under the bus, which is why most coaches avoid it entirely, but he navigates it pretty well by being so matter of fact about it and just kind of openly discussing the strengths and weaknesses of every player on the roster. I think I've mentioned it before, but I always get a laugh out of it when every summer he proclaims some recruit or transfer to be a lot better than he anticipated. I don't think I've ever seen another coach put it in those kind of...blunt terms.

Lamont Paris bringing Pringle to media days is certainly a choice. Love Nick and forever grateful for the Clemson game…but If you are counting on him to be a leader on your team then…..Good Luck

Oats actually reminds me of several people I've met from Wisconsin/Chicago suburbs. They're self proclaimed assholes that are actually very friendly. They actually just shoot straight and don't really hold back their opinions. Which can be a nice change of pace from southerners who are too polite to say what's really on their minds.

I think Arkansas is gonna be our biggest challenger for the conference.

I think we are gonna get a rejuvenated Cal with a fresh start. I think they will be solid
