I'm not arguing I'd like it, but I fail to see how Pearl wanting to be the first SEC team to play at Duke in a year he thinks he'll have a good team is a bad thing.

Wanting to play the game and being willing to put your own program at a disadvantage to do it are very different things. Obviously it's a good thing for the sport to get these big time matchups and tough scheduling should be encouraged, but if the feedback I'm getting from my counterpart on the other side is "we'd love to play, and I'll help you lobby for it, but only if it's on our court with no return trip" I'm telling them to pound sand. The Duke fanbase is already a bunch of arrogant, self righteous pricks and the media has been carrying their water for decades. Giving them the narrative that one of the best programs in the SEC is so desperate to play them that they're willing to do it on those terms is just a bad look.

I love our national perception at this point - both as a program and in terms of how we carry ourselves. I think it's clear other programs respect it, too, as we've been able to secure some awesome home and homes with some very good programs. At this point I think other programs that feel the same way about scheduling look to us first if they want to schedule a tough 2 game series.
It's fantastic.
It's fantastic.

The RollTide.com announcement
quote:
The Alabama men's basketball team will compete in the Players Era Festival in Las Vegas, Nev., starting on Nov. 26. The field also includes Creighton, Houston, Notre Dame, Oregon, Rutgers, San Diego State and Texas A&M.
"We are always going to support our student-athletes at the highest levels and do everything we can to help them succeed. The Players Era Festival aligns with those objectives," head coach Nate Oats said. "In addition to playing quality opponents in an NCAA Tournament-like atmosphere, the trip should provide our players with access to NIL opportunities. We're looking forward to being part of the inaugural class of participants."
The three-game tournament is a first-of-its-kind annual men's in-season college basketball competition with more than $1 million in name, image and likeness (NIL) opportunities available for players surrounding the games. In addition to introducing an entirely new structure for an early-season tournament, there will also be live music and financial education programming for participating student-athletes.
The Players Era Festival
* Alabama will open the Players Era Festival against Houston
* This will be the third meeting between the Tide and the Cougars in the last four seasons
* The Crimson Tide defeated No. 14 Houston, 83-82, at Coleman Coliseum during the 2021-22 season and defeated the No. 1 Cougars, 71-65, on the road in 2022-23
* Alabama's second contest of the Players Era Festival will feature either Notre Dame or Rutgers
* Alabama is 2-4 all-time against Notre Dame, having last faced the Fighting Irish in the 2022 NCAA Tournament
* The lone matchup between Alabama and Rutgers came in 1969, when the Tide defeated the Scarlet Knights, 80-69
* EverWonder's sponsors will be offering at least $1M in NIL opportunities for athletes on each participating team surrounding the Players Era Festival. Scholarship student-athletes will be eligible to participate in innovative NIL activities that are fully compliant with NCAA regulations.

Clifford is impressive to say the least. But I was just as impressed with Halloway's passing skills.

November can’t get here fast enough. Holy I’m so excited to see our athleticism paired with a big athletic dog inside.

On Aden Holloway…
You can see why he so highly recruited. Holloway showed good skills as a facilitator and knocked down more 3s than he missed. He has a quick pace off a missed shot and will really shine pushing the offense. He’s going to move fast and will shoot off the dribble.

On Labaron Philon…
He might have the most upside of any of the guards. Philon carries himself with confidence and is not shy to pull the trigger on a three or penetrate and challenge bigger defenders. He’s a long athlete who will get even better as he gets stronger. He has confidence past his freshman status.

On Aiden Sherrell…
He oozes potential as a big man, and if he’s patient, he could find himself as a high draft choice. He wasn’t scared to challenge Cliff in the paint (with mixed results), but he has NBA size and frame. He still needs polishing but was not afraid to pull the three or challenge at the rim on both ends.

Aiden Sherrell is going to be our biggest impact newcomer. He's a beast unlike anything we have had under Oats.
I cant recall the last time we had a true center with that much offensive ability. Dante Hall could score at the end of his career. But he was never a shooter. Sherrell looks like he can be a legit 3 point threat.

No, we're at 13 now. Kai's scholarship was because we didn't initially use the full allotment last year; it was always going to be a short-term deal.
I'm still surprised we managed used all 13. That's hard as hell with the portal.

I think it'll be Reid just because he's going to be competing with guys like Mo D, Mallette, and Cunningham for minutes while Sherrell is competing with Cliff. His odds of getting starter minutes are significantly better.
That said, I think there's a very good chance Sherrell looks like a better player. He's got a lottery pick ceiling.
