8 or 9 man rotation and doesn't like playing more than that.

I think he's said this every year. I'd be surprised if we got down to a consistent 8-man rotation, but I could be wrong. With as fast as we play even a 9-man rotation could present it's challenges, though I could see this as possible.

My guess as to who's on the outside looking in if we're down to a 9-man rotation would be Burnett, Miles, Holt, KAH, and Rojas with Burnett and Miles being the only 2 I could see bumped up to the rotation. Having said that, I'm mentally preparing for Rojas to get a similar share of minutes this year

I would kinda like to see mass subs almost like a hockey line change. Keep fresh guys on the floor and make the other team adjust to what we are doing. We have two really good ball handlers (JQ and JD) for the first time in a lot of years.

He has done it every year too. We have had an 8 or 9 man rotation by the end of conference play each of the last two years. Every year at Buffalo thats what he had too.

You just can't play 10+ guys all year and have any consistency.

Yeah when you are playing 9-10 it’s hard for guys to get in a groove with so much in and out. That many is fine for some of the nonconference when you are still looking at stuff but ideally you would want it down to 8 perhaps 9 by the time conference play starts

#Alabama basketball coach Nate Oats said forward Alex Tchikou (Achilles) isn't able to go live yet in practice. He says Tchikou has been able to work out and is up to around 6-11, 245 pounds.

Tchikou weighed 225 pounds when he came to Alabama last season.

I don't know that he'll be healthy to start the year. He'll need to get in shape too.

Oats hopes that Frenchie will be able to go live in 5-6 weeks when the team gets back after their 3 week break

Yeah I know folks are expecting big things from him this year but those Achilles injuries are no joke. Takes a long time to work your way back.

My Starting 5 GAME 1:

Quinerly
Shack
Ellis
Primo
Gurley

What I think we will settle into as a Starting 5:

Davison
Quinerly
Ellis
Gurley
Tchikou

I wonder if Tyler Barnes wants a few grand for Grad School. I also wonder what his ring size is. I need a wedding band replacement...

Coach Oats has said that who starts is not as important as who is on the floor at the end. Perhaps the conversation should be about who will be on the bench with 5 minutes left to play.

Exactly. And he will likely rotate one or two for offense and defense. He will want guys who can hit free throws at the end too. Really doesn't matter who starts, but finishers lkely from among Quinerly, Shackleford, Primo, Ellis, Gurley, Burnett (89% ft's and plays D), and maybe Tchikou, who is a good shooter. We would likely sub Ellis for Quinerly defense/ offense. Don't know enough about Davison's free throws or defense yet.

It does, but if he's fully cleared for all basketball activities by the medical staff at the beginning of the offseason that's a really good sign. As is the fact that he has been able to bulk up without putting on a lot of bad weight while he's been on the shelf. If he has all summer to get his conditioning back in order he should be good to go by the opener.

Has Oats ever run a full court press. That seems like a way to speed up the game and use a deeper roster.

It can be, but with the way the rules are these days the only teams that should do a lot of pressing are teams that can score but are complete disasters on defense. LSU or UGA for example. If you can play effective defense without pressing you'll create plenty of missed shots and turnovers without the added risk of being called for hand check fouls 75 feet from the basket though.

We did vs Mizzou in the comeback. I hoped we ran it more after that because it was effective.

It's going to be a lonnnnnggg boring offseason. More ready for basketball than football.

Plus our golf programs suck now apparently, which makes me sad.

He hasn't been cleared yet though. I am interested to see when he will be. The recovery time for an Achilles can be a year and he injured it in October.
