Maybe he wasn’t drunk and allowed the drunk guy to drive? Idk. Could be something similar to that.

That'd be kind of bogus unless the other kid was just trashed. Banchero isn't trained to detect impairment in others. Drinking and driving isn't a crime. Drinking to the point of impairment and driving is.

What exactly does "better than expected" mean in this discussion? I think most people would've had us at 5-2 at worst going into the Gonzaga game with a great shot at being either 6-1 or 7-0.
There was never a debate on this, we’ll be significant favorites through our first 7 games except for Kansas who will be favored by 2 to 4 pts. Our eighth game is against Gonzaga and I think better than expected would be going undefeated and beating Gonzaga, who will be a 5-12pt favorite. But I think we’ll go undefeated through Memphis and I can’t wait to profit off of the dog lines.

Should be fun tonight. South Alabama definitely doesn't have a 5 guy. The tallest guys who are playing significant minutes for them so far are Kayo Goncalves, a 6'8" Brazilian who can shoot (stretch 4), and former Auburn forward Javon Franklin at 6'7". I suspect we'll see Ellis and Gurley on Goncalves; Gary would likely have drawn that assignment otherwise. Guessing Franklin will be Bediako's guy when he's in the game, which is a huge mismatch in our favor.

Kansas will be favored, if we even play them I hope they don’t choke and lose to Dayton or someone before us. They shouldn’t but you never know. But yeah if I’m wrong about everything else the one thing I know for a fact I’m right about is that Kansas will be the favorite if we play them.

South's roster is almost entirely transfers, right?

ETA - just read a longer story and that’s it. Banchero appears to have been sober and was letting the drunk grandson drive.

.08

Let saying it's no big deal. But I got less than 3 hours of sleep last night. I was may more of a public danger driving to work this morning, then on a normal day with a .08 bac. I get, a line has to be drawn. But I'm not gonna crucify a kid for a dumb decision.

And to charge a kid as aiding and abetting someone who barely blew over the limit oh, is just fricking crazy.

I’m assuming he knew he was drinking. Otherwise how would that charge make any sense.

Primarily. They only had 7 guys play significant minutes at Wichita State, with 5 of those being transfers: Tyrell Jones (G) and Javon Franklin (F) from Auburn, Charles Manning Jr. (G) from LSU, Jay Jay Chandler (G) from A&M, and Diante Smith (F) from TCU.

Goncalves is arguably their best player though, at least offensively.

Some ESPN BPI predictions for our upcoming games, with our win percentage chances:

South: 86.7% chance to win
Oakland: 91% chance to win
Iona: 61.4% chance to win (they must be relatively high on Iona)
Gonzaga: 25.8 % chance to win
Houston: 45.6% chance to win
Memphis: 30% chance to win

I have no interest in debating the accuracy of this system (my guess is like most systems at this point it’s low on data). Just bored and thought it was sort of interesting.

They don’t list Belmont, Drake, Kansas, etc. My guess is Belmont and Drake will both be pretty good though. I don’t think there’s any doubt Kansas will be favored over us, unless they have some early losses/injuries.

Kind of surprised on the Memphis chances. They have dissatisfied their expectations every year.

I don’t know what their model consists of, and I’m bad at math anyway.

Torvik has the following (not going to list every one):

Iona: 83% chance
Gonzaga: 22% chance
Houston: 65% chance
Memphis: 24% chance

So some clear differences with Iona and Houston, but both seem really high on Memphis. To be fair, their roster is stacked with some elite of the elite types.

I’m going to withhold judgement on how valid the aiding charge is until more info comes out. If he was sober, knew the grandson had been drinking, and got in your car with him driving the car with him he’s dumber than a box of rocks and deserves it. If he was unaware the grandson had been drinking he shouldn’t face charges.

As to the .08, that’s the line, for most of us if we blow that or more you’re DUI.

Notice I said most. They’re both under 21. In Alabama, if you’re under 21 your legal BAC is .02. According to the google in NC it is 0.00. He was way past any level where he was going to be legal if he’d sat around and waited a couple of hours before driving.

I do agree that it isn’t an offense that needs to be a scarlet letter. If he has a lick of sense, school, a nice fine, and 6 months or so of taking an Uber everywhere should be enough to put him on the right path.

I think Memphis will lose to St. Louis tonight.

Just saw this Herb Jones highlight video from a couple days ago vs Memphis.

17 pts, 6 rebounds, 1 block

Sounds like Herb’s getting the last laugh.

Go look at the Pelicans talk board on Tigerdroppings. The praise for Herb Jones is awesome. They love him.

They love him and don’t like Kira. Whoever would have imagined it.
