I haven't gotten the sense that we are failing to take opponents seriously since the UGA game. There have obviously been points at which the effort wasn't ideal, but as a team overall we have consistently played hard since then. It's just a flawed team. The UGA debacle was absolutely a wakeup call for them though.
This is the worst moral victory of all time, but I don't think we lose to Georgia if Keon doesn't get hurt and have to leave the game. We sort of fell apart basically immediately after that happened.
It's sort of irrelevant - we were awful that game anyway. And it does seem to have been a wake-up call.
My take on this team is ultra-simple: we're a good but obviously flawed team. I don't know that playing "down to our opponents" has really been that much of an issue. We're just not good enough defensively to go on big runs. Because of that we play in a ton of close games, so you're going to see some odd results.

Interesting to note regarding the conversation about stats from blowout wins helping NET much more than wins over other top teams:
Two big movers I notice today:
- Murray State Up 4 (jumping Alabama and Arky) after 76-43 home win over #67 Belmont
(LSU's NET owes a lot to a home blowout of Belmont too)
- Loyola-Chi Up 10 after 82-31 home win over #321 Evansville
- Compare that Arkansas who didn't move at all after wins over #9 Tennessee and at #55 Florida.
I know this is a oversimplified but it's the pattern I've been noticing all year.

Jahvon Quinerly says it’s "not 100 percent” that this will be his final season at Alabama.

I noticed two interesting stats on twitter from Cole Cubelic of all people:
1) We're 10-1 when JD scores in double figures.
That speaks to his importance, and one of our main problems - we haven't always gotten enough from the newcomers (JD and Gurley especially).
2) We have 11 single-digit wins this season, most in the SEC.
We don't go on runs, we don't blow people out. Relatively simple.
We only have 7 wins by double figures, and 4 of those came in our first 7 games. Some of them against pretty good teams.
Looking through our schedule with that in mind you can see how good it was through the Houston game. The Iona loss really took some of the shine off of how good our start was. We were drilling good teams and beat Gonzaga and Houston back to back. Then we went to Memphis and the wheels came off.

Hopefully after all the drama last off-season (especially with his dad) he decides just to come back instead of the question lingering around for too long.

I think JQ is just being polite honestly. He needs to take his shot at the next level while he can.

Honoring the 02 SEC Champs tommorow. Will Gottfried be there?
Some thought from that team that stick out…
Buzzer beater to win SEC vs UF.
Absolutely getting shelled at TadPad last game of the season in a Gottfried special.
Losing to State in SEC title game and then not getting a 1 seed.
Losing to Kent State. They had HOF TE Antonio Gates on that team and he had a good game against us. I think they lost in the Elite 8 or Final 4.

Offseason decisions still loom for Jahvon Quinerly, rest of Alabama’s backcourt
Alabama will honor junior guard Jahvon Quinerly among its seniors when it hosts South Carolina on Saturday in Coleman Coliseum, but that does not mean this is the end of the road for Quinerly in Tuscaloosa.
“It’s not, like, 100 percent set in stone,” Quinerly said Friday. “That’s a decision that’s gonna be made at the end of the year.”
Quinerly, who turned 23 last November, is four years removed from his final season of high school basketball. He played in 2018-19 for Villanova, then transferred to Alabama and had to sit out the 2019-20 season because of NCAA rules at the time. He has played the past two seasons for Alabama but has eligibility remaining.
Asked Friday how he would rate his decision to transfer to Alabama, Quinerly responded, “That’s a good question. I’d rate it a 10. The journey I’ve been through and just finding the right program that values me for what I bring to the table. It’s been a great run. I’m excited to see how far we can go this year and I’m always gonna remember what I did at Alabama.”
After Quinerly shot 43 percent on three-pointers last season and was named SEC tournament MVP, some projections for the 2022 NBA draft placed him in the second round. Quinerly’s scoring has ticked up to 14.1 points per game this season, spent mostly as a starter, but his three-point shooting has slipped to 25.8 percent. Projections of Quinerly being drafted this June are now less common and he is ESPN’s 78th-ranked prospect for the 60-pick draft.
Quinerly and two other scholarship players, James Rojas and Keon Ellis, will be recognized by the school on senior day -- but this could be the final season for other Alabama players, too.
Guards Jaden Shackelford and JD Davison are likely to join Quinerly and Ellis in exploring professional options, coach Nate Oats said Friday.
“I think after the season we’ll sit down and go through it all and what makes the most sense,” Oats said. “But all four of them have indicated that they’re going to look at that. I would guess based on feedback they get, some are staying -- maybe all are staying. We don’t know. We’ll kind of evaluate that after the year.”
Davison is projected No. 27 overall in ESPN’s latest 2022 mock draft this week, a drop from predictions earlier in the season that placed him in the top half of the first round. Davison leads Alabama’s rotation players in averaging 4.5 turnovers per 40 minutes and is shooting 29 percent from three-point range.
Ellis is projected by ESPN to be taken No. 49 overall, in the second round, while Shackelford is not among ESPN’s top 100 ranked players for the draft. Shackelford entered the NBA draft pool last offseason but was not invited to the combine and later withdrew his name.
“The one thing I do tell them is -- and it proved true last year -- the more this team wins, the higher their stock goes,” Oats said. “Like, at that level, they’re paid a lot of money to find winners. So if we didn’t win at the level we won at last year, Josh Primo doesn’t go 12th in the draft.
“Right now the best thing they can be doing for their stock and their future is doing whatever we need them to do to win games. Because if they prove if they’re capable of helping the team win, then their stock goes up. They all need to play defense. At that level, you need to be able to guard your position. So they all got to be able to play defense. You got to move the ball and be unselfish. Pretty much whatever you need to do to help us win is going to improve your draft stock. So I think they’re all in the right frame of mind.
“I think Quinerly just had a great game at Vanderbilt. JD’s playing as hard as he’s played all year. Shack has been playing well -- I mean, he’s had a couple of down games over the past month-and-a-half or so -- but he’s been playing pretty well for the last month and half. And Keon is -- shoot, I saw a graph come out, he’s like the most efficient wing in the country. I think they’re all trending in the right direction, we just need this team to continue to trend in the right direction.”
Even if all four of Alabama’s top guards this season do not return, the Tide would enter next season with three former McDonald’s All-Americans in its backcourt. One is already on the roster in Nimari Burnett, who transferred from Texas Tech last offseason but suffered a season-ending knee injury in preseason practice. Two others will join as five-star freshmen in Jaden Bradley and Brandon Miller. Alabama also added another freshman guard in Rylan Griffen and should have Jusaun Holt returning as a sophomore.
Among its front court, Alabama received word from Noah Gurley that he will come back next fall for a sixth and final season of college basketball. That option of returning is also available to Rojas and Ellis because of the NCAA’s COVID-19 waiver for the 2020-21 season.

No. 24/25 Alabama Begins Final Homestand Saturday vs. South Carolina on Senior Night
The Crimson Tide will honor three graduating players following the contest which will tip at 5 p.m. CT on SEC Network
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Alabama begins its final homestand of the year when it welcomes the South Carolina Gamecocks to Coleman Coliseum Saturday at 5 p.m. CT on SEC Network. It will be the only contest between the teams during the regular season.
The Crimson Tide enters the contest having won four of its last five games following Tuesday night's 74-72 win at Vanderbilt. It was Alabama's third-straight win in Memorial Gymnasium which is the first time that's happened since 1985-87. The lone loss over the five-game stretch came at No. 4/3 Kentucky on Feb. 19 (lost, 90-81).
Saturday will also double as Senior Day with Keon Ellis, Jahvon Quinerly and James Rojas being honored following the contest. The trio has or will earn their diplomas during the 2021-22 year (seniors Tyler Barnes and Britton Johnson were honored last season, Noah Gurley is expected graduate in 2022-23 and will return next season).
In addition to honoring the graduates Saturday, Alabama also welcomes back the 2001-02 team in a halftime recognition. That team finished with an overall record of 27-8 (17-0 at Coleman Coliseum) and 12-4 in SEC play to win the program's first SEC regular season championship in 15 years. The Tide ended the year with a final ranking of No. 8 by the Associated Press. Erwin Dudley and Mo Williams were named SEC Player and Freshman of the Year, respectively, while Mark Gottfried was named Coach of the Year. Rod Grizzard also earned also earned all-league honors that memorable season.

Gun to my head I'd guess
Davison - stay
Shack - stay
Ellis - go
JQ - go
KAH - transfer
Tchikou - transfer
2022-2023 Roster
PG - JD Davison (SO)
PG - Jaden Bradley (FR)
SG - Jaden Shackelford (SR)
SG - Nimari Burnett (SO)
SG - Rylan Griffen (FR)
SF - Darius Miles (JR)
SF - Jusaun Holt (SO)
SF - Brandon Miller (FR)
PF - Juwan Gary (SR)
PF - Noah Gurley (SR)
PF - Noah Clowney (FR)
PF - Nick Pringle (JR)
C - Charles Bediako (SO)
That's 13 guys right there. I could see maybe 1 guy transferring (Gary? Holt?) and us using that spot on a sharp shooter.
If JD improves and gets more confident/consistent, Burnett is fully healthy and the freshmen are as long and athletic as they appear to be.........that's a whole lot of options for lineups with different strengths and one deep arse roster. Ironically, we said the same thing before this season and then splat.
