Unless I missed the part where Oats can go out there and hit all the open shots they miss and not throw the ball 20 feet in the air cross court for a turnover, he can only preach and help so much before it’s eventually on them executing.

We had problems tonight but in the end if we shoot 20% from 3 PT it's a 1-2 possession game the last 3 minutes.

... he should continue to just roll the ball to Rojas, JD , Holt and Gurley and say "go gett'em boys, make some shots.
If things go bad, I'll be standing over here with 3 or 4 timeouts in my pocket

The problem is Herb Jones was the motivator, disciplinarian and coach on the floor last year. He was the guy that told youngsters to stop dragging or making stupid passes.

Which is why I said a roster overhaul is probably due to a certain degree.
He can only play who he has, and he generated good looks that THEY missed, and dumb turnovers THEY had. I love what Oats is doing and is philosophy/plan. He doesn’t have the guys he thought he was going to have in Gurley/JQ/Rojas, but what he creates and generated for them to go out and miss/mess up when its out there right infront of them half the time doesn’t fall on Oats.

I think the season is defined against Ole Miss. They either show toughness and resolve after the previous bad team road disasters or they are completely who they are and the season is what it is.

I’m not putting the losses/disappointment solely on JD because that would not be accurate and would be wrong. And I’m also not saying he isn’t trying because I can SEE that he’s hustling and trying.
But he has very much so been less than advertised, and for the role he was expected to have on this team, he hasn’t had the contributions we’ve needed at all minus Gonzaga and Baylor. He lacks shooting and is turnover prone, on top of hardly using his athleticism that he’s blessed with and getting beat off the dribble/man to man defense consistently.
While I think JD’s a good kid and trying his arse off, he’s been a disappointment in terms of contribution and play. His evaluation of what we were getting is a shell of what we’ve actually gotten, which is why I feel he’s been kind of a missed evaluation/bust.
