Haven’t seen ’official’ documentation and am too busy enjoying another grand Bama weekend to research, but I read comments somewhere that every team Bama has played so far this season is currently 1st in their conference. (?)

Miami isn’t. Drake and South Alabama might not be. At any rate, it’s a hell of a schedule

I love Oats’ passion…absolutely love it! And although I’m probably going to get serious downvotes for saying this, I do hope he “matures” as a coach in the next 5-10 years here at Bama. This is only his third year in the SEC, but I would love to see him back off the technical fouls, show a little more composure in heated situations, etc. He’s never going to be a “Bryce Young” type of calm as a coach, it’s not his personality and not what makes him good at his job. But I’d love to see him grow out of a little bit of this in the coming years if possible…we all have areas to work on and I’m sure Nate would say as much.

Once again the media will side with the whiners that take the low road, while complaining about someone who is just looking to give the customary "good game" handshake at the end of the contest.

Not at all surprised

Said another way, Saban has lots of fire and passion. But you would never see him “show up another coach” the way Oats did to tPear in SECCG and Sampson last night. It’s all in the heat of the moment, but in the heat of the moment is when character comes out. I don’t think Oats will be doing these same “slights” in 10 years.

I don't mind it. Teams eventually take on the personality of their coaches and I think Oats having a little edge to him bleeds over into the team. They might get outplayed but they are going to keep coming at you until the game is over. I wish he'd avoid picking up techs outside of situations where we're playing half asleep and need a wakeup call, but the one he got hit with last night was complete bullshite. A ref he's not even talking to, and isn't even within 20 feet of, T'ing him up is ridiculous.

Was thinking the same thing during the game, Houston is much better than their ranking.

Rewatching the game...as good as Quin Early was on offense he got beat off the dribble a few times on defense.

I posted on the rant, but I think Oats being arrogant and a smug a-hole is why our team plays with confidence and believes they can beat good teams. We haven’t had that confidence under either of the previous two staffs.

Nate is one of those coaches you love him if he’s yours but I can also see how he might rub others the wrong way. I mean he knew what he was doing leaving his hand extended that long. I don’t mind it and love him. But I understand it. He does need to watch the T’s though. I think he’s getting a reputation among officials and I don’t want it costing us.

Him and Hodgson are both cocky...I love it.

Y’all remember when Nate first got hired he did that “Hey Coach” and Hodgson was telling them to tear those damn poster of Avery off the wall?

No other team likes Saban either. If your rivals hate your coach, you’ve hired the right guy.

Agreed. I can see why other fanbases would hate him, but I really don't care because I think he has turned us into the closest thing you can get to 40 minutes of hell under modern rules. As long as our guys are going to class, staying out of trouble, and winning games he can be as much of a prick as he wants to be.

What seemed unusual about last night’s technical is he was working the referee on the side court by the bench and the referee under the basket called the T. Not something you see every day.

Oats is everything we want in a coach. I don't care about the "Technical fouls" Because he's fighting for his team and as player you want that from a coach. There is no reason for him to need to "mature" on the court.

As far as the Sampson and Oats after the game.. Both were focused on the official and trying to see what's going on.. Oat didn't realize Sampson didnt shake hand, and Sampson didn't do it on purpose. Its not that deep.

Just be glad we have Oats that is willing to fight for his team and if it means getting Tecnical fouls so be it.

Saban does the same thing: look at this: LINK

Let's not forget this one:

It was almost as if they had predetermined Oats was going to get a T sometime in the game and that ref wanted to get the T out of the way so it wouldn’t come in a more critical moment. I think refs are tired of Oats arguing vehemently all game long and he was hoping to limit it by giving the tech early. It was a bad look for the ref for sure, and way less deserving than if they had given him a 2nd one with 2 min left in the game when he was arguing the Gurly foul (which was a bad call). I was really glad to see them not give him a 2nd there, as that could have cost us the game.

To be clear, I wouldn’t trade Oats for any other coach…period! And never said he shouldn’t ever get a tech, just needs to pick his spots and not argue every single call all game long. Saban does a pretty good job of picking his spots, and your link was a perfect example (31-7 with 3 min left in the game).

Show me a link of Saban dissing another coach in the past 10 years? That’s my main point, and I think Oats will probably get there in the coming years (although I could be wrong).

If you look at Oats face during the whole incident, you can tell he knew what he was doing with keeping the hand out that long. It’s was pretty funny, but definitely doesn’t come off as classy or respectful. Just my opinion.

ETA: He actually sticks it out a 2nd time after laughing at the whole thing. That was probably the part that was “uncalled for,” but funny. LINK

You’re right.

This is an unfair comparison not just by comparing Oats to a legend, but also by failing to acknowledge the situations are different.

In football, we can compete with any school in recruiting regardless of our coach. That is not true in basketball. So we need a coach in basketball that is willing to ruffle some feathers or do things a little differently to grab the attention of our fans and players.

Saban rubbed people the wrong way a lot more when he was building at LSU. I specifically remember saying they weren’t going to lose Fran and us cheaters in the locker room after their miracle win @Kentucky in ‘02.
