My hope is he just continues to work hard this year and doesn’t give up on the staff / the staff doesn’t give up on him. I’d really like him to be here for the long term because there’s so much potential there.

On a side note, the drive home from Tuscaloosa is so nice when you dominate the opponent

Same. Especially with Bediako looking like he might end up being the classic upside big that NBA teams have a tendency to fall in love with come draft time.

Yeah agree with both of y’all. If Tchikou is willing to be patient and work hard I things could really pay off for him here. Miles did and we can all see that starting to pay off the year and by this time next year, I think he could really be a star. I hope Tchikou has people in his camp telling him similar things.

I selfishly hope that Bediako stays at least one more year, but I think you’re right. If he keeps showing the promise he has, he’ll start seeing his name on some first round projections. I mean I didn’t think Mo Bamba was that impressive at Texas outside of defense and he went top 5 that year. The NBA loves 7 footers that can run and erase shots.

When he had the ball and was pushing tempo on the fast break my thought was oh God this guy may be a one and done if any scouts see this.

I've mostly been impressed with his defense. The refs kinda screwed him on a couple of calls in the opener, but since then he has 16 rebounds, 9 blocks, and 4 steals in 76 minutes across 3 games. He's not much of a leaper, but he moves well laterally and he's got a good feel for positioning. He has also shown some flashes of potential as a facilitator. There's definitely a lot there to be intrigued by.

are we still thinking JD is better than Primo?

It's hard to say. They are very different players. JD doesnt have Primo's shot but he has a better handle and a lot more physicality.

JD has been making a lot of hustle plays and he has been a strong finisher at the rim. If his outside shot develops than i could see him being a better player than Primo in the long run. But Primo's length and silky smooth shot made him fly up the draft charts.

Agreed. Primo might be as good, or better in the NBA. But, I think JD will make a much bigger impact for Bama, if we compare their freshman years (likely all we get). JD is already a great facilitator. He's also very competitive, which I think is one of the most important qualities a player can have.

Once he gets comfortable, I see him being better. He's still deferring to his teammates, which is expected considering he is a freshman and a part of the deepest guard rotation in the country. People also have to remember that Primo at this point last year hadn't even shown a flash of what he was capable of. He was bricking shots (badly) and looked completely lost out there.

I think JD is the best passer on the team, but he still needs to refine the rest of his offensive game. The 3 point shooting is an obvious one, but he also needs more subtlety in his drives. There’s not much backup plan if the blow-by doesn’t work.

Sometimes in the NBA you see really early screens, basically right after the ball handler crosses mid court. That way the PG is able to get a full head of steam going downhill and then either get to the rim or kick out. I think JD would be deadly with that, but it’s just not something we really do.

To be fair, we’d probably foul our big men out with illegal screens.

I think JD will continue to get better and better. & he started at a great place.

I’m impressed as hell with Bediako so far.

We should be tough when we have Gary rolling alongside Keon.

He came in a few minutes before the walk-ons, and I'd say he looked the part of a skilled, athletic big. He's definitely got the talent, but he's in the doghouse
on an extremely deep roster.

Maybe. But maybe it's also a Miles-like situation. Talented as hell, but still raw.

Holt has provided some good energy in relief of Gary's absense. He seems to have a good feel for being in place for rebounds on both sides of the court. His shot hasnt connected yet but it looks good on release

I think it’s also possible (this doesn’t have to be an either/or situation) that Oats and the staff are just taking things very slow with Tchikou because he’s coming off of one of the worst injuries a basketball player can have.

JD/Primo debate is stupid. It’s like debating a comedy vs a drama. They both serve two different roles and impact the game in very different ways. They’ll both be NBA players though, so they’ll have that in common.

the debate was not that both aren't really good. They are. This is a good debate to have. Life is good.

What are your expectations over the next 6?

Villanova 39
Tennessee 24

12 minutes left in the second half.

I’m sure Nova is real good, and it’s too early to say much about Tennessee, but they were so underwhelming last year that I was not convinced that a couple of blue chip freshmen (replacing a couple of blue chip freshmen) was going to turn them into a juggernaut. That certainly hasn’t changed based off this score line.

Specifically they had a broken offense last year…and 24 points.

Aub looked rough last night and then had about a 10 minute run where it looked like nobody could beat them. 1/11 should be a good time.

Only saw like the final minute of the Auburn game. South Florida had a chance down 55-52 and going to the line and the guy missed both.

And certainly not writing off UT, but this hasn’t dispelled any doubts I had about their team or Barnes’ offense.

48-26 now.
