Are you sure that would be a good thing or is he part of the problem?

I got to listen and see if this is real? Was there any follow up to that?

I seriously doubt it, BUT it would be HUGE if he did.

People talking about us being one of the conference favorites next season?

We are one of the biggest toss ups.
We are about to lose most of our starters and roster. Not saying that's bad but we will be a completely different team next year with no experience playing together and a reliance on several freshmen. It could be good but no one knows for sure.

After what we just saw, I'm excited to see a difference. Just hope it's a big improvement.

Quinerly is head-and-shoulder above our other guards, plus the experience would be invaluable!

My prediction from 3/3. Spot on (unfortunately).

Obviously a good coach can recruit the good players that, in turn, keep making the coach look good.
It appears to me that Oats needs to find that type of player that can respond the best to his type of coaching.
Hopefully, he'll figure that out.

I'd much rather be in a position where we need to use the portal to find gritty tough guys and speciality dudes (sharpshooter, veteran PG) than using it to try and find great athletes and big talent guys.
Agree, and I think Oats got arguably the best fit possible on paper, he just tore his knee up before the season.

We need a veteran PG and a 6’5”+ shooter who can play adequate defense. I don’t think you can challenge shots or passing lanes adequately in this system with more than one guy out there under 6’3”, and we played a ton of minutes this season with THREE of those sharing the court.

Yeah its not really a debate that uk, ark, and us are the favorites next year. Rest of the conference will be changing coaches or losing alot

Literally Oats said it in his press conference that Quinerlys injury may change his plans

Due to bad planning, I was only able to watch the last 12 min of the game but it was frustrating watching the updates on the phone say turnover, turnover, missed shot, turnover.

That said, there are “Casuals” (Josh Pate reference) coming out of the woodworks today with their negativity, and a few regulars need to take a step back and catch their breath as the melt was huge…despite the game going exactly like the last several games have gone…and after our starting point guard went down. This team isn’t mentally capable of overcoming in-game adversity, and that was a huge blow to the psyche.

Ultimately, this ended up being a team that lacked leadership and fundamentals. They were talented, but couldn’t do the little things right and would allow mistakes to snowball quickly.

Oats isn’t perfect. But I’m surprised at the level of negativity coming from the regulars (totally expect that from the casuals).

SOG and others have posted that even the best coaches have down years, and those are typically “losing season” down years not 6 seed lose first round.

Tennessee had a similar end to their season last year and fans were not happy with Barnes, but look where they are now.

CBB is more volatile year to year now than ever before, and sometimes you just have to cut your losses and move to the next season. Football isn’t nearly as volatile year to year.

I think we need to adjust our expectations if we think we are going to be a top 2-3 seed every year making deep runs each tourney. I hope we build that, but there are a lot of good programs (way more than football) that are all competing to be in the top 12-16 teams.

Lastly, building a culture takes some time (unless you are Nick Saban). We lost our culture guys from last year, and Oats learned a valuable lesson. Everyone needs to calm the heck down!!

I'm very much TBD on that moving forward. Just not much track record to draw from. Every basketball coach has teams like this at some point (even the GOATs), but they happen much less often for those guys. We just have such a small sample at this point it's hard to make a judgement on it.

Sorry, I hadn’t seen the press conference or anything yet.

But dang, that would be massive and would absolutely take him back

His style of play is by far the favorite for high schoolers. They love to quickly push it up court and show off their shooting skills. That's what they think will get'em to The League.

I still love the system. I also think it requires the right guys to run it well, and when you don't have them it can look super clunky.

We are losing almost our entire roster.

Not saying that's bad but no one has a clue how good our team will be next year. Outside of 4-6 guys, we don't know who will be on the team.

In conclusion on this year - it just kind of sucked all around from the start with the Burnett injury. We had enough talent to do stuff like Gonzaga, but our physical and mental flaws won out in the long run.

Still like Oats, love the look of the class coming in and hope that we make smart portal additions to shift the culture back. Wish it was November 2022 already. Roll tide.
