That's the most likely scenario. It could just be as simple as him blowing off finals to do draft prep, so now he is having to retake them to finish his degree. I mean you have to be a genuine imbecile to not be able to complete courses as a D1 athlete if you're actually trying to complete them. You'll get every opportunity they can possibly give you, and even illiteracy hasn't proven a barrier to some.

I'm surprised he didnt stay in the draft honestly. Worst case Scenario imo, he wouldve gotten a UDFA deal like Bediako for over 800k.

If I was JQ and 25, still in college, with a million dollars in the bank I would probably be choosing Miami
I'd probably try to hook up with Ruiz's daughter. Turn that million into a billion. If not her, there's no lack of trust fund babies at the U.

The average g league salary is one $50k, which means there are good getting paid much less. With Chuck getting an exhibit 10 instead of a 2 way contact, he'll probably be less than the average, maybe at it.

Yeah you're right I was thinking of the NBA rookie Minimum being 900k. Bediako probably got a lot less than that.

Blue Collar Unplugged is having a podcast discussion (now) on JQ if anyone wants to listen in LINK

Personally, I've got no hard feelings. Especially if it's Seton Hall. Hell, Miami is basically South Jersey.
So he's either going home or getting a huge fricking bag. And with the NBA not appearing to be in his future, am extra couple/few hundred grand can make a huge difference in setting someone up for a comfortable life.

Paul would be another perfect fit for us...a 6'7 PG who's extremely smart...he's also very good in transition and can make three's.
He could start here honestly because we lack a PG and with his height you can play him in different positions. 1-3!

I can’t help but remember him fondly. Oats always complimented him and he’s a huge reason for both our tourney and regular season conference champions

Had the pleasure of getting to know JQ a little bit. Good guy, will be pulling for him whenever he ends up.

So, Jeff Goodman went off on Twitter yesterday. And I definitely agree with him about how JQ's transfer went down...
After a couple replies...
And....
And when someone claimed it was late because of needing to pass courses...
This is got to be the most egregious example of tampering occurring that's very detrimental to a team, because it doesn't just effect the transfer and the former team's coach, but the entire roster. Only way to top it is when Goodman's example inevitably occurs, and an expected large contributor leaves in August.
And while he brought up a guy leaving after an overseas tour not being happy with his role. But what happens when a team realizes they have a major hole and drops an oversized bag, due to desperation? If Penny convinces a FedEx exec that a player could be the difference between the tournament and NIT, I could see someone ditching his teammates in late August/September for a payday double or triple what was offered in May.

Jahvon Quinerly goes into the portal on June 25th.
It’s a complete joke.
Should be an earlier deadline (May 15 or so) for everyone —- undergrads and grad transfers — to have to go into the portal in order to be eligible to play this season.
That still gives players more than enough time after season ends.

I have zero issue with him leaving.
My issue is that he is leaving on June 25. … and is eligible to play somewhere else.
NCAA just needs to make the cut-off portal date for both undergrads and grads the same.
And....

Don’t be surprised to see a grad transfer go on an overseas tour with his team in mid-August, come back unhappy with their minutes/role and then go into the portal right before first day of school and be eligible for new school.
And when someone claimed it was late because of needing to pass courses...

Quinerly had already graduated, per source. He didn’t need credits to graduate this summer.

It’s because he needed to get credits in summer school to graduate.

I mean, this seems logical.
Why is it even different to begin with?

The NCAA needs to bring back the sit out rule.
The real issue is that guys can just go wherever they want, whenever they want.
It makes it much too easy to tamper. All you have to do is call a guy up and say, “man you are too good to not be getting PT” or “how much NIL are you getting there? I’m sure we could do more for you”.
If you introduce the sit out rule again then you can’t tamper so easily or it sounds like BS.

Transfers signal how the Alabama NIL pie is sliced
June 27, 2023 • Chase Goodbread
Less than a month after announcing he would return as Alabama basketball's point guard for the 2023-24 season, Jahvon Quinerly saved his final crossover move as a Crimson Tide player for the transfer portal.
He's gone, and like so many defenders he blew by with lightning quickness, he caught the UA coaching staff flat-footed.
[He'll] secure an NIL deal at his next destination, and he's got the talent to command a good one.
A better one, it would seem, than what he could get by staying.
Welcome to the uphill climb every Alabama coach not named Nick Saban faces when it comes to the NIL budgets required to both recruit on a high level, and retain top players who succeed at Alabama well enough to make more money somewhere else.
And the degree to which Alabama fans will ante up for the football NIL war chest, to the exclusion of other sports, isn't hard to calculate. The ones I've come across over the last 30 years, by and large, would sooner spend a dollar on Alabama football than a dime on basketball, or a nickel on baseball.
If you think there isn't passion for Alabama basketball, you weren't at Coleman Coliseum much this winter. It was as loud as it's been since the early 1990s, if not ever.
For most fans, though, buying tickets and writing checks for NIL are two very different asks. And writing them for a sport other than football takes a different kind of fan altogether.
For this fan base, football is the first priority, the second, and the third.

That was better for fans and coaches, but was bullshite for the players. They should be able to transfer without sitting out, but whenever and as often as they want.
Can you imagine how often a recruit is lied to during the recruitment process? Plus, these kids are 15-18 when they're getting recruited. Meanwhile, billions are being earned on their work. They deserve equal/fair treatment. If a coach doesn't have to sit a year before going to a different school, why should players?
But because the NCAA has balls the size is peas, they've turned out into the wild west.
There should be one free transfer without exception. I'm also in favor of allowing a release of their NLI if a coach leaves before they arrive on campus. Maybe even if a coach leaves. These guys are trying to have a career in sports. I'd be pissed if I signed up to learn under Saban, and ended up having a Mike Dubosesque coach instead.
But there needs to be rules, and that rules need to be enforced. Make the process transparent, so there's no question if a transfer is allowed or that it's above board.

I think basketball has shown that it will compete in the NIL department. JQ probably just wanted more.
