Some final offensive numbers for Bama:

Category Ranking Number/%
Points per game 4 81.8
Offensive Efficiency 41 1.074
Floor % 61 49.5%
1st half PPG 26 37.1
2nd half PPG 3 43.4
Points from 2pt 195 35.5
Points from 3pt 9 29.7
% of points from 2pt 351 43.4
% of points from 3pt 36 36.3
% of points from FT 67 20.3

The improvement from 1st half PPG to 2nd half PPG shows that the staff did an overall good job of making half time offensive adjustments.

I'd like to see the Offensive Efficiency, Floor % and % of points from 2pt increase next season. We can actually improve all three categories by shooting a better % from the 3pt line. The guys that got the majority of the minutes this year shot 31.7% from 3pt.

3pt %:

Miller 38.4
Q 35.7
Sears 34.5
Burnett 32.1
Bradley 31.8
Gurley 31.5
Griffen 30.1
Clowney 28.3
Welch 22.6

If we can shoot better from 3pt, it will open the lane more and allow for more lay ups and dunks which would increase our points from 2pt and floor %. For those that don't know (I had to look it up myself), Floor % is the percentage of a team's possessions that it scored at least one point. If we shoot better from 3pt, we won't have as many wasted possessions.

Sorry. This looked a lot neater before I posted it.

I love how we went from not making the tournament but twice in 20 years to our fans now complaining and jumping off the bandwagon after we have made the sweet 16 and lost two out of the last three years.

Crazy how far Oats has brought the program in such a short time. Also crazy how terrible and fickle some of our so called bball fans are.

This is a great time to be a Bama bball fan and the future looks even brighter.

Certain people have the right to be upset and down on our program 5 days after our best team in program history couldn't even get past the Sweet 16. We are quite literally the worst program in NCAAT history at winning Sweet 16 games by a 2 loss margin. Some of the more battered Alabama basketball fans need a second to vent and fool themselves into thinking we won't care as much about next season.

SOG of all people can't be confused as a "bandwagon" jumper or a "so-called" fan. Dude was one of like 3 basketball posters when I joined this board. He's also one of the main people responsible for us having one of the best basketball forums in the SEC. Let's cut our seasoned fans some slack

Another big fish hits the portal

Tulane's Jalen Cook will enter the transfer portal, a source told ESPN. The two-time First Team All-AAC player averaged 19.8 points, 4.9 assists per game this season. Career 37% 3-point shooter. Cook will also be testing the NBA draft waters while maintaining his eligibility.

What happened Friday was a historic chokejob and we shouldn't try to pretend otherwise. People have the right to be upset, while still understanding how much progress this program has made over the last four years. Same 'ole Bama until proven otherwise.

If a 1 seed losing to a 5 seed in the Sweet 16 is a “historic choke job” then what do you call Purdue losing to 16 seed FDU in the Round of 64?

Love Nate and he's our guy but in his presser he was trying to make the Sweet 16 sound like a huge achievement. Come on, coach...you're a pretty self aware guy...he should know the stigma around Bama hoops and the Sweet 16. It's another banner to hang but for this team it was an absolute failure.

He needs to embrace that failure. Don't spin it.

Also get rid of the plaid jackets. Pronto. It's a good look and it was cool at first but now the voo doo is real.

I've been having my heart broken in March now for 47 years. It all started with Alabama getting screwed by the officials when they had undefeated and eventual national champion Indiana led by Bobby Knight on the mat with a foot on their throat in the Sweet 16. The latest chapter feels just as painful as that one: we had SDSU down by 9 with 12 minutes to go. Time to just close it out like we had so many other opponents, but they would not go away. And this latest team Bama had trouble delivering the knockout blow way too often and allowed teams to creep back into it near the end. This time it bit us in the arse. And the bracket had parted like the Red Sea before Moses to allow us to play a scrappy Marquette team for a berth in the Final Four.

That little voice inside my head that says "You're never going to see a Bama basketball team in the Final Four!" is growing louder every year. And I'm beginning to worry that he's right.

I wouldn’t call it a choke job but is a huge, huge disappointment

An even worse choke job. Look, I love Alabama basketball and I love this team, but college basketball is defined by what you do in March, not January. This is the third straight March where we've imploded against an inferior team, and that will define our program until we change it. The fact that it keeps happening is demoralizing.

Nate Oats inexplicably took two timeouts with him into the offseason instead of trying to calm his young team down while SDSU went on a 12-0 run. He's done a great job overall here, but the criticism he's received is well-earned. Alabama is not paying five million a year for March chokejobs. CNO still has a lot to prove.

Winning the SEC regular season over 18 games means much. Winning the SEC tournament over 3 games was great too. Yes, it would be good to win the 6 game NCAA, but our season was in no way a failure. The NCAA tournament is a crap shoot. It does NOT crown the best overall team. The NBA's 7 game playoff format likely does crown the best team.

Nobody is saying our season was a failure, but fans have the right to be upset that we've gagged away two final fours in three years, with a blowout first round loss to a play-in team sandwhiched in between. This program is capable of taking the next step and becoming consistently elite, but we have a clear pattern of underperforming when it matters most.

We’ve said it several times before. Oats’ main glaring weaknesses are timeout use, and late game substitutions (offense for defense). No excuse to not use one of the TOs during the run (think there was a media timeout after 4-0 run, no excuse to let it get to 12-0 and us down 3 before the next one), and no excuse to not use one when we cut it to 2 with like 46 seconds to get your best defenders in the game and set the defense. Instead, we foul and put them on the FT line. I love Oats and would have been happy with double championships and S16 prior to the start of the season, but those are inexcusable mistakes to keep making 5-10 times a season. He’s got to learn and grow!

Thank you for touching the third rail of this board. CNO has consistently been outcoached in the biggest games of career. For five million a year, it's reasonable to ask for that to stop happening.

I can tell some of these FANS didn't live through the Grant & Avery era in Tuscaloosa.

Coach Nate Oats has put us on TOP in a short period of time and ALABAMA will eventually breakthrough to get to the FINAL FOUR.

I'm glad Coach Oats has brought us out the GRAVEYARD because just a few years ago we was in VERY BAD SHAPE!

The problem with our fanbase if we have a lot of people who dont start watching the team til March then think they're experts.

we've gagged away two final fours in three years
this alone shows you don’t really follow basketball. You can’t “gag away” something that is as difficult to reach as the Final Four is. It doesn’t matter how good we were, it was always gonna be difficult to reach a Final Four. It’s all about matchups once you make the field. We had a bad matchup with SDSU.

I think we’ll reach an Elite 8 pretty soon and maybe a Final 4 one day, but those are very very difficult to get to. It takes time and patience. Oats has us right where we need to be.

They’ll be in Lexington for bourbon and football next November, but not to Louisville to see hoops in a win or go home scenario…possibly cut down nets. Was disappointed we couldn’t take over KFC YUM! Center. By far the least passionate fans there. It’s embarrassing
