Philon followed Murphy and Reid and some of the football players are recruiting him.

Some of Philons most recent follows….Nate Oats, Mark Sears, Preston Murphy.

Mac says Philon has no bearing on Sears decision…..and then he says he wouldn’t be shocked if we were preseason #1

Sears, Philon, Wrightsell, Youngblood, Holloway..seems very crowded minutes wise. But obviously you can’t turn down someone of Philon’s talent.

Sears
Philon
Holloway
Wrightsell
Youngblood
Mallette
Nelson
Reid
Sherrell
Cunningham
Dioubate
Stevenson
Center from the portal

No doubt that roster is preseason number one in the country. But holy hell at trying to manage the playing time/minutes. Everyone on the roster 1-13 will expect to play and play a lot. Compare that with last year. We only had 8 guys average ten minutes a game.

Sears could play more as a 2 guard and less minutes overall. He can use that to showcase his defense a little more, not having to run the offense all the time. Thats something NBA teams probably want to see from him.

Regardless, we have seen that Oats likes to have multiple guards on the court, sometimes as many as four. So its not at all surprising that we load up. Replacing Mo W with Philon would be a huge upgrade.

Also, we talked about Mo D handling the ball some more next year. With that potential roster it makes me think we put Mo D into the Draymond role again next year. We are gonna need a few good rebounders and he might be the best we got.

You can't play 13. You can barely give more than 8 or 9 consistent minutes unless there are injuries. A lot of the guys with eligibility beyond next season are going to hit the portal. That's just the way it is now. View the prep recruits as one year depth pieces with the potential to be more and it makes a lot more sense.

Portal is closing soon and he hasn’t mentioned anything about leaving. He seemed to enjoy the tournament run and his growth.

The bottleneck is at guard and smaller wings. Were running kinda low on big body guys so his minutes are looking great for next year.

I don’t even know where to begin with our starting lineup….

Sears
Wrightsell
Youngblood or Reid(OMG this position battle)
Nelson
Omiyuri or Another Portal Big

I like Cunningham and think he is gonna be really good this season and it’s hard to see where his minutes come from. Mallette too

Per Tim Watts on Philon:

We made some calls late last night/this morning and Labaron Philon - PG - Mobile (Ala.) will be in play for Alabama, per multiple sources, if/when he is released from his LOI, which is expected.

Bama will be a school he is interested in and we are told it would be listed as high interest. And the interest is expected to be mutual.

Watts on Sears and Grant:

**The most recent word on Grant Nelson is that he is expected back, as of now. Mark Sears is as well, but the draft is still an option for him. If he gets a draft grade that he can’t turn down, it would obviously change things. A 1st round grade would be a no-brainer for him. But all of this is subject to change and likely to be determined in his draft workouts.

Looking back, what the frick was our medical staff doing with him? The guy eventually got drafted 40th overall and has played for a few different NBA teams. If there was even the hint of an issue that would make it unsafe for him to play none of that is happening. Baylor may have been willing to roll the dice but pro teams aren't going to be as inclined. Especially for a backup PG type prospect. There was obviously nothing there. Makes you wonder if it was engineered so we could make room for Kira. I don't remember the exact timeline of all that though.

It's going to be so hard to fight the urge to Gump insufferably all offseason if this happens.
