Honest Question….is it possible JQ played with a concussion last night? He just looked out of sorts after Plavsic nailed him in the head

we can really play low IQ basketball at times and lack situational awareness

I think this sums a lot up well.

I don't know if the players just don't sense it, or aren't told, but how many times have you gotten that gut feeling like, "we really need to be careful and just get points here, because it's about to get away from us if we don't," and then right at that moment JQ lobs up a 65-foot transition rainbow pass to Chuck who has two guys draped on him.

Sometimes it just doesn't make sense, and I think that's the frustrating part (at least to me).

We also seem to be occasionally getting back to where we look shook and no one wants the ball, so we just stand around and pass up open looks, dribbling wayyyy too much. I think this team plays better when they're running and pushing, which results in almost unconscious shot selections.

All that to say, I love these guys and it's pretty amazing to be complaining about the handful of things they need to change in order to stay ranked #1, or make a deep run — think about what we're accustomed to talking about at this point in the season.

Sounds good till literally any player says something or does something to JQ and he immediately unravels.

Dude is in his mid-20s yet has the mental strength of a teenager. Smh.

How long have you personally known JQ?

Quinerly is who he is at this point. I used to be the guy’s biggest fan and if he could play smart basketball consistently he would be a legit star. Skill set wise he’s incredibly gifted...but being a 5th year senior it’s pretty evident he’s never going to figure it out.

When we’re up big at home he looks like a superstar but in a tough game like last night against a really solid defensive team he tends to implode. Just terrible decisions. It’s all mental.

If he gets these types of minutes in March vs tough teams we’re going to be in deep trouble.

Just my 2 cents from last night

1) physical game. Knew it would be. TN was a desperate team playing with their hair on fire. Lots of no calls on both ends, definitely favored TN. The officiating made no sense. They called ticky tack calls, but didn’t call ones where guys were getting mauled.

2) officials didn’t cost us this game. All the turnovers cost us this game. Some of that is credit to Tn and their defense. But some of the TOs were just stupid, low IQ basketball.

3) lack of movement. Seems like there was a lot of dribbling from our guards and no movement from anyone else. No movement on inbounds plays either, that seems to be a real issue the last 2-3 games.

4) we can learn a lot from this game. Don’t waste a failure, as Saban says. We were never going undefeated in SEC play, but this will be a good lesson for the team. Not sure if they were buying into the rat poison or not, but now they’ve been punched in the mouth in conference. Time to get off the mat and finish out strong

We're 22-4, and one of our leaders had a bad game against the #1 defense in the country on the road... Let's take a deep breath and not crucify a guy who has helped us tremendously in conference play this year.

Technically, the #1 defense in KenPom history.

Combine that with them being physical and the refs not calling things balanced on charging/blocking fouls. And that isn't just Bama fans bitching. That seemed to be consensus on the Reddit thread, that had fans from all over the country, so it's less biased than somewhere like the rant.

Do I need to know him to watch him repeatedly lose his focus whenever some trolls or hits him attempting to get him to unravel?

Guys,
I’ve been a critic of JQ before, but we need to lay off. The kid loves Bama, has been playing harder this year, worked his tail off to get back, has helped us in key spots, and deserves some level of respect for being one of our guys! Different people handle criticism in various of ways, he seems to try and use it as fuel vs. ignore it. Either way, let’s show some love for one of our own even in the midst of critical analysis. We’re not LSU fans!!

Why is it that whenever someone is constructive they are told to lay off?

He is showing a weakness which could be exploited in his life after sports. If he can't focus and control his emotions he could get himself in trouble with women, in situations that need de-escalation, etc.

He is too old for that man. He isn't a kid anymore and when we have 18-year olds who can hold their water better than he can that is a shame.

It actually is that deep and it shows the difference between those who have actually lived it or actually want these guys to do well in life versus those who don't really give a damn about these players and just like them to help their teams win.

Actually caring about developing people is what makes Saban and his Process so great.

JQ has repeatedly lost his focus and cool when people troll him, goad him or get phsyical with him. He does it online, on the court, etc. He needs to grow up and realize that is part of life and he has to learn to handle these situations better. I know most here could give a shite about these guys the second they leave Alabama but I actually wish them all success in life regardless if where it takes them. Part of that is growing up... maturation as a man.

Dude, have you actually played basketball beyond a pickup game? You have no fricking clue what you're talking about with this one.

Fwiw, I've played against McDonalds All-Americans, Rivals top 250 recruits, and a guy who was D1/pro/overseas for 13 years. I've played the game. I wasn't as good as them, but I know basketball

And it is NOT that serious. He had a bad game after having a great year. His style of ball is going to create turnovers some games, and incredible plays others. Dude is a baller, and 1v1 can take almost anyone off the dribble. I love watching him play. He's creative, incredibly quick, and has an amazing handle. But his biggest strength, said creativity, can hurt him. And he simply had a bad game.

There isn't this huge pattern of behavior related to his style of basketball.

I totally agree with you. Well said. This season is far from over. It will be interesting to see how players finish the season as opposed to bad stretches. I think people forget that Bama is 22-4. That's an accomplishment in itself. It's disappointing to lose a game but the season is not over yet.
