I expect some of Auburn players to play like a top 5 pick when we play them.

Broome's a really good player, he will probably give us some problems.
Why are we talking about Auburn anyway? We've got some gatas to take care of Wednesday night.

I thought I heard a week or so ago that the Florida game was already sold out. I guess not.

they've sold a good many tix in the last few days for sure.

And Bama better not overlook them. That Castleton is the kind of big man that's given Bama a lot of problems over the last few years.
Gonna need angry Chuck to show up early and someone else to step up if/when he gets in foul trouble.

Castleton's underrated for sure. Tshiebwe, Miller, and Castleton are probably the 3 most productive players in the SEC this year.
Castleton had a solid game when they beat us last year, 19 points and 7 rebs. Bediako played pretty good too, 11 points and 7 rebs in 20 minutes, Chuck was in foul trouble most of the game, picked up two fouls in the first 4 minutes of the 1st half.

Looks like you have to have a sound cloud account to listen but this is the podcast mentioned earlier today:
Alabama’s Nate Oats has the Crimson Tide in position to potentially earn a #1 seed in the NCAA Tournament. How are they 20-3 after losing 3 of the top 4 scores from last year? Total buy in from the Freshman. Why the defense picked up after the Gonzaga loss. Why he believes if they continue to do the little things and bring consistent effort they will be in good shape down the stretch. And discussing his contract extension… The plan is to be at Alabama for a long time. Plus, could we see five Mountain West teams in the NCAA Tournament? And we’re counting down to selection Sunday… Only five more weeks!

a good chance Auburn comes into our game having lost 3 of their last 4
We've obviously discussed it already, but it's worth another look to point out Auburn's final nine games:
at Tennessee (L)
at Texas A&M
Alabama
Missouri
at Vanderbilt
Ole Miss
at Kentucky
at Alabama
Tennessee
Woof.

Here's the episode on Apple Podcasts, if anyone would rather go that route.

I think Brandon Miller makes a bigger impact on defense than the stats show. That guy is always getting a hand in someone's face when they shoot. It's hard to show hustle in an efficiency rating.

I wish. I'm in Brooklyn... Get to see a couple of games a year when visiting my family but never miss one if they play close to here. Was at the famous Colin Sexton vs Minnesota game.
Also, that the South region finals are the closest for Purdue is a little wonky.

My brother is in Brooklyn too, so we've been planning the dream tournament run and it assuredly runs through MSG.
Let's pray WM, let's pray.

I don't care what explanation anyone provides. But the NET rankings are weird as hell.
They give the quad records and nothing else. There's no mention on any of the metrics used. I wouldn't think twice if it were just another computer ranking. But it's someone the NCAA has their logo. You'd think there'd be some sort of basic transparency.

Seems the NET is mainly just the Kenpom rankings.

Feel like they've been pretty transparent about the NET parameters. Like this from when they announced it:
or like in 2020, when they were transparent about changes to the model:
also while on the rankings page you screenshotted they only show the rankings, if you click the more detailed link at the bottom, they do later publish a summary report with more detailed rankings. Summary Report (or have in the past anyway)
or like in 2020, when they were transparent about changes to the model:
quote:
When the NET was introduced, there was five factors it considered: Team value index, Net efficiency, winning percentage, adjusted win percentage, and scoring margin. The team value index considered 3 factors opponent, location, and winner. Net efficiency was team offensive efficiency minus defense efficiency. Adjusted win percentage gave added points for winning on the road and took points away for losing at home, in short where you played mattered. Winning percentage and scoring margin are self-explanatory, only note is scoring margin was capped at 10 points.
Beginning in 2020, winning percentage, adjusted winning percentage and scoring margin were all dropped from the NET ranking. Therefore, only team value and team value index are used to ranked teams. So, the only factors which go into the rankings are efficiency (offensive points per possession minus opponents points per possession), strength of opponents played, location of game, wins and losses, and who won the game.

Big 12 deserves a 1-seed but they might not get one. Just a brutal conference

A couple of quotes from the podcast earlier today:
Oats: "Shoot, when they made it clear they wanted to keep me here, I made it real clear I wanted to stay here if we could get it worked out. Greg worked it out. We're planning on being here for a long time. We love it down here in Tuscaloosa."
Oats: "We've built it. There's no guarantee you go somewhere else and can build what we've built here. It's a lot easier to keep it rolling than it to go try to build something somewhere else. I wasn't really trying to move. We've got what we need here to win at a high level."
