I think it might be us even if Smith gets back with Arky. Really liked the progress we've made the last couple of games and the emergence of Broome as the offensive focal point is very encouraging. He's a good decision maker with the ball and has a great, physical frame that is tough to stay in front of.
That said UT & Bama are and will remain a clear cut above Auburn and Arky. Bama is consistently getting whatever shot they want in crunch time which is a sign of a great team with F4 or more potential. The defense has also been incredible since conference play started.

I thought JQ had called that TO that stoped the Arkansas run late on his own but rewatching it, it looks like Oats motioned for him to call TO.
That was a great timeout and not one I am sure Oats takes in past years but gave us a great chance to regroup and draw up that badass play you’re referencing.
If we're being honest though, that TO was called WAY too late. You shouldn't let a 12-point lead turn to a 2-point lead before calling a TO. It definitely showed the grit and "it" factor of this team, but I'd appreciate it if Oats didn't test them like that

agreed. When they cut it to 6, a timeout should've been called immediately. I was screaming at the tv. He had 3 left with only 5 minutes remaining. USE THEM!

Ala is 44-9 vs LSU in Coleman. Domination.
Still, favorite game I’ve ever been to was Herb Jones in a cast at home Vs LSU icing the game with his off hand. Jus built different. Love that dude.

Was looking for some average attendance number for bball and came across this article from 2016.
22nd nationally in home attendance even under Johnson was pretty impressive, 4th in the SEC that year. I think our bball fans have been pretty supportive despite not being very good most years. No doubt we could sell out a 10,000 seat arena pretty much every home game under Oats and make it very loud.

The Crimson Tide's average of just over 13K fans ranked 22nd nationally as well. Kentucky led the country with 23,361 per game, while Syracuse and Louisville also surpassed 20K per game. In the SEC, Alabama's total per game ranked fourth behind Kentucky, Arkansas (14,879), and Tennessee (14,232). The SEC as a conference had the second-highest average behind the Big Ten. Avery Johnson's team finished with a 10-4 record at home last year and an 18-15 record overall in his first season as head coach. Pretty sure we were counting tickets sold back then. We are counting people walking through the gates now. Kentucky was sold out but we aren't reporting that.

Idk but it seems like being 4th in attendance in the SEC in basketball and 22nd nationally would warrant a decent arena. Its not like Bama fans don't care about bball at all, when we are good the fans go.
We have everything we need to be a top 20 basketball program other than support from the administration .

For reference, here's where we stand so far this season:
Coleman capacity is 14,474
Longwood 10472 72%
Liberty 10270 71%
Jacksonville St 9018 62%
South Dakota St 9195 63%
Memphis 9195 64%
Jackson St 8803 61%
Ole Miss 8505 59%
Kentucky 13474 93%
If we can't fill Coleman for Kentucky with all their fans too, our arena is too large. Think we need one around 10-11,000 to keep it consistently full or near full and improve the environment. It's too large and dark.

I only saw two empty seats in the gym for the Kentucky game, now I am sure there were more than that but it was pretty damn full.
Yes around 10,000 would be perfect.

From RollTide.com - looks like it was 14,474 when it opened and then expanded twice.

Year Opened 1968 (then known as Memorial Coliseum)
Last Renovation 2005
First Game Feb. 1, 1968 vs. Samford (Alabama won, 86-65)
Seating Capacity 14,474
Sports Men's Basketball, Women's Basketball, Gymnastics
Coleman Coliseum saw its greatest transformation prior to the 2005-06 season, when the entire facility was updated in grand fashion. Behind a bold modernized facade, the interior lobbies and concourses were expanded and upgraded along with offices, locker rooms and support facilities. In the main seating area, 15,316 new seats, all theater style and many of them padded, welcomed raucous crowds along with a new club area along the east side of the court.
The most recent updates included a new state-of-the-art high-definition scoreboard hanging over center court and additional courtside seating to bring the facility's capacity to 15,383.

Sorry to hijack this thread about the arena when we already have a thread for it. I just thought that article was interesting.

Yea, that's what Mistaken was talking about. I got the numbers off of ESPN's stats page for each game. I guess they don't have the updated capacity number.

And on the box score for the UK game attendance is listed as 13,474… let’s see what they report on Saturday for LSU

I was hoping when we let Johnson go that we would go out and spend the money on a proven coach, Tennessee did with Barnes, Auburn did with Pearl.
We instead hired the latest coach that was at a small school and had a good NCAA run that we could get for cheap. Whether it was pure luck that this coach turned out to be probably a top 10 coach in the country or that Byrne knew what he was doing is up for debate.
Regardless here we are ranked top 4 in the country and I really hope we finally spend some money to keep this coach and get a new arena. If we don't it will be a major blow to our bball program.
Byrne pretty much has to spend the money now whether they want to or not or the fanbase will continue to crucify him in regards to bball and rightfully so.

As far as the LSU game the key will be stopping Williams, He is a beast, 6'10 245 5th year senior.
He has scored over 25 points in a game 4 times this year, averaging 18 points. They pretty much go as he goes. If he gets 30 on us they have a shot, if we can hold him under 20 we should blow them out.
They have Adam Miller who is a good albeit streaky shooter, he is capable of hitting 6 or 7 threes in a game, so guarding him will be a priority too. He has 3 games this year where he hit 5 or more threes, we dont want him to get hot vs us.

The problem with Coleman is the shape/structure, not the # of seats. A 15,000+ arena, shaped right (balcony overhangs, tighter floor to stands ratio, etc.) while rearranging the student section, would make a world of difference for the intimidation level.
If Alabama gets as strong as we feel that they can, the numbers will explode. I was there when they packed it out with a good team, and a 14,000 student enrollment. It'll be MUCH more if/when we "get good" again!

I guess LSU has given up on hoops after the 1-3 start, not one thread about the game on their forum.
